“What matters in life is not what
happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.” ― Gabriel García
Márquez
Two days ago, I requested an eminent
website to feature my interview on my award-winning book ’21 Success Sutras for
Leaders’ URL: http://www.amazon.com/21-Success-Sutras-Leaders-ebook/dp/B00AK98ELI
which was ranked as one of the Top Ten Leadership Books by San Diego University
for the year 2013. The founder of the website is very passionate to acquire
knowledge. He features interviews and posts articles written by award-winning
and bestselling authors globally. I thought it was a great opportunity for me
to share my knowledge on my bestselling book. Above all, I am also a passionate about
acquiring and sharing my knowledge. He promptly replied and informed me that he
had bought my book and started reading it. He congratulated on my
accomplishments, my focus and my life’s work. He was impressed with my e-mail signature
"Life is great!" and asked the following question: Can you tell me the thoughts, the mindset,
and the beliefs that help you live your mantra, "life is great!"?
Here
is my response: Life
is a circus with peaks and valleys. It all depends on how we take it. I
consider that life is truly great as life is full of twists and turns. Things won’t happen the way we want. Things
happen the way they are supposed to happen. Life takes lots of turns which we
rarely expect.
I joined Indian Air Force when I was
18 years old and served some years. During
this period I acquired many qualifications including MBA as I am a continuous
learner. I am a self-taught and self-made man. I entered into business to
become a successful entrepreneur. I failed miserably. Then I took up to
teaching profession eight years ago since I have many qualifications including
MBA. I restarted my education in 2007 and completed my PhD in Soft Skills in
2011. I never expected that I would earn my PhD. I started to author books from 2010 and
authored 36 leadership books so far. Of which 30 have been published and six
books are under publication pipeline. For all these books, eminent
international management thinkers have written forewords. Here are some of
them: Marshall Goldsmith, Dave Ulrich, Chip R. Bell, Ken Shelton, Jim Kouzes,
Barry Posner, Dr. Nido R. Qubein, James Strock, John H. Zenger, Roland
Sullivan, David Clutterbuck, Fons Trompenaars, Norm Smallwood, Howard M.
Guttman, Dr. Tony Alessandra, Jim Cathcart, Chris Widener, John Baldoni, Lois
J. Zachary, Patricia Wheeler, Kate Sweetman, Sarah McArthur, Subir Chowdhury,
Soumitra Dutta (Dean), Debra Benton, Colin Gautrey, Gerard Seijts, Orrin
Woodward, John Spence and Bob Urichuck.
Two of these books are the bestselling
globally. ‘21 Success Sutras for Leaders’ has been ranked as one of the Top Ten
Books by San Diego University for the year 2013, and another award-winning book
‘Success Tools for CEO Coaches’ http://www.amazon.in/SUCCESS-COAHES-LEARNER-LEADER-LADDER/dp/9351102491
received community award winner from Small Business Book Awards 2014 http://bookawards.smallbiztrends.com/management-2014/success-tools-for-ceo-coaches-8/
I underwent lots of trials and tribulations since childhood as I was born in a
poor family. Financial hardships were severe throughout my life especially during
the period of 2010 to 2013 as there no income on my books. I remained
unemployed without any regular income. Despite
financial challenges I started a nonprofit initiative - “Vision 2030” to build
one million students as global leaders by 2030 http://professormsraovision2030.blogspot.in/2014/12/professor-m-s-raos-vision-2030-one_31.html
Recently my “Vision 2030” received Leadership 500 Excellence Awards 2015. Hence, based on my life experiences, I
concluded that “Life is great!” and I kept it in my email signature. I am 51
years old with a long way to go. I’m not sure how many turns my life would
take. Life is truly great indeed!
“But there is suffering in life, and
there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it's better to lose some of the
battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever
knowing what you're fighting for.” - Paulo Coelho
"I've learned that no matter what
happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better
tomorrow." - Maya Angelou
