Message to Millennials: Do the Right Thing, Always Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—21st-Century Philosopher & The Father of “Soft Leadership”

“Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” —Mark Twain

People are often caught between doing the best thing and doing the right thing. Some people think of doing the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas some people think of doing the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes. I believe that doing the right thing is always better than doing the best thing in life and leadership. In this regard, we will discuss and differentiate between them.

Doing the right thing rather than the best thing is easier said done because the path is riddled with several challenges inviting controversies temporarily. The fact is that truth alone triumphs at the end. Hence, doing the right thing pays at the end. It helps you lead your life ethically and mindfully. You live like a legend permanently.

When you insist on doing the best thing, you may be compelled to cut corners to achieve your ends, whereas when you insist on doing the right thing, you don’t have to cut corners. However, you will have to struggle and suffer during the journey. Some people achieve success at any cost due to peer pressure and cut-throat competition. People are smart and wise enough to identify such people and separate them from ethical leaders. Some people achieve success late in their lives through the right means by ignoring peer pressure and cut-throat competition. In a nutshell, they achieve success with integrity. Such people live beyond their lifetime and will be remembered forever in history.

Always do the right thing at the right time to get the right results. You must have the wisdom to identify the right time and timing to achieve the right outcomes. When you do the right thing, you are satisfied with your life, and you sleep peacefully and happily. You won’t have any regrets on your deathbed. Remember that treachery wins first, and the truth wins in the end. When you want the truth to win, you must always do the right thing and the best thing in your life.

When your intentions are positive and your actions are ethical, you will be able to do the right things in life. Ensure that there is consistency between your intentions and actions while doing the right things to get the right results.

A Take-Home Message

With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt.” —Zig Ziglar

Do the right thing rather than the best thing. If you can do both the right thing and the best thing, it is right. Otherwise, always do the right thing to lead your life with purpose and meaning.

We humans can control our actions, not the outcomes. Therefore, we must do what is the right thing to do in the given circumstances, irrespective of the outcomes. Life is short. We must make it peaceful and pleasant for us and others.

The supreme quality for leadership is integrity.” —Dwight D. Eisenhower

Industrial Disputes—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—21st-Century Philosopher & The Father of “Soft Leadership”

Industrial disputes transpire when there is discord between employees and employers and if there is a rift between them. It results in a stoppage of work or working without any effective results.

The aim of the Industrial Disputes Act is to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization. It ensures industrial democracy and harmony. It protects the interests of both employees and employers. The disputes are usually resolved through peaceful negotiations with a win-win attitude.

Causes of Industrial Disputes

There are several causes for industrial disputes such as economic, political, social, cultural, technological, legal, and governmental machinery and policies. Other causes are related to an individual such as personality, attitude and behavior, and their educational and cultural factors.

Disputes may also arise in two ways: one is fighting for their rights, such as if the rules and regulations are not maintained, and policies and procedures are not honored. The other way of arising the disputes is due to purely monetary reasons that are related to wages, salaries, pay, and perks.

If the grievances of the employees are not addressed adequately, it results in strikes by employees. On the other hand, if the employers have any problems with the employees or due to other reasons, they can declare a lockout. If the strike is the weapon of employees, the lockout is the ultimate weapon of employers.

It is essential to resolve industrial disputes amicably as failure to do so results in an organizational crisis, thus affecting both the employees and employers adversely.

Types of Strikes

There are several ways of resorting to strike by employees such as ‘stay away’, ‘sit down’, ‘go slow’, ‘taken’, ‘boycott’, ‘gherao’, ‘sympathizing’, ‘pen down/tool down’, ‘lightening-sudden strike’, ‘work to rule’ and so on.

A Take-Home Message

Both the employees and the employers have to play a responsible role in ensuring industrial peace and harmony through give and take with a 'win-win' attitude. It is essential to ensure organizational peace and prosperity for achieving organizational excellence and effectiveness.
