Work for a Cause, not Applause—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—The Father of “Soft Leadership” & International Leadership Guru

“I think that teachers have the hardest job in the world, and they are the most unsung heroes so much of the time.” —Emma Walton Hamilton

Most people on the planet Earth die as unsung heroes and heroines. Only a few people are recognized for their contributions. Although most people work hard with passion and wait with patience to achieve recognition and success they fail miserably during their lifetime. And the world respects successful people, not unsuccessful people. In this regard, we will discuss the causes of unsung people and offer tools to die as sung heroes and heroines.

Causes for Lack of Recognition

In our world of big names, curiously, our true heroes tend to be anonymous. In this life of illusion and quasi-illusion, the person of solid virtues who can be admired for something more substantial than his well-knownness often proves to be the unsung hero: the teacher, the nurse, the mother, the honest cop, the hard worker at lonely, underpaid, unglamorous, unpublicized jobs.” —Daniel J. Boorstin

Here are some reasons for the lack of recognition for some people despite working hard. They led a simple and humble life. They remained quiet and were too shy to promote and brand themselves. They failed to hog the limelight. They failed to network and make a noise. They lacked tact and diplomacy. They acquired hard skills, not soft skills. They could not manage politics. Usain Bolt rightly remarked, "Competition is the easy part. Behind-the-scene is where all the work is done." They might be on the wrong side when opportunities are thrown at them. They were not prepared to seize opportunities. They worked for their causes, not applauses. They were givers, not takers. Above all, their preparations did not meet the opportunities.

Tips to Achieve Success in Your Lifetime

Everyone dies. Not everyone really lives.” —William Sachs Wallace

Observe the following tools and tactics to achieve success and fame during your lifetime. Learn when to hold and when to fold. Be adaptable. Be flexible and adaptable. Take risks. Remember, not to take a risk is also a risk. Emphasize more on smart work and less on hard work. Improve your quality of connections and friends. Reinvent with changing times and technologies to remain competent and relevant. Never be scared of failures. Treat failures as lessons and move on with valuable takeaways. Never stop dreaming big because of failures. Take feedback regularly to identify what did not work to adopt new tools and techniques. Hire mentors and coaches to acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities and ensure that your career ladder is leaning on the right side of the wall.

Conclusion

"The womb from which you emerge determines your fate to an enormous degree for most of the seven billion people in the world." —Warren Buffett

Be happy that you have contributed your best. Be happy that you have made a difference. Be happy that some of your friends have earned fame and enjoyed all the facilities. Inculcate the attitude of gratitude. Remember, if everyone achieved success and fame these words would have lost relevance forever. To conclude, contribute your best irrespective of the outcome to avoid regrets on your deathbed.

"I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and I saw that life is all service. I served and saw that service is a joy." —Khalil Gibran

Write the Story of Your Life—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—The Father of “Soft Leadership” & International Leadership Guru

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading or do things worth the writing.” —Benjamin Franklin

Most people don’t live their lives fully because they don’t have the vision and clarity about their goals. Successful people have a vision and realistic goals and work hard to accomplish them. They are the rarest people who have a vision and work hard on their passions to excel as international legends and leave everlasting legacies. When you want to lead your life with purpose and meaning and to be remembered beyond your lifetime, you must write your own case study to create your destiny. In this regard, we will discuss writing your own case study to leave your leadership legacy to the next generations.

Destiny is different from fate because you can create your destiny while fate is about the events that happen that are beyond your control.

How Do I Want to Be Remembered?

The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you understand why.” —Mark Twain

I want to be remembered by the world as a beautiful lotus that rose from the dirt of toxic family background. I want to be remembered by the world that I lived my life with diversified experiences including military, business, teaching, training, research, and consultancy. I want to be remembered for making courageous decisions despite foreseeing the consequences and innumerable challenges in life. I want to be remembered by future generations as I made the impossible possible despite a lack of regular education from eminent educational institutions. I want to be remembered by the world for sharing my knowledge freely with the world despite financial constraints and challenges in my life. I want to be remembered by the world for inspiring students by improving their attitude grooming them as global leaders, and making a difference in the lives of others with my service, simplicity, humility, and integrity.

Write Your Own Case Study

To become an academic expert takes years of studying. Academic experts are experts in how and what others have done. They use case studies and observation to understand a subject.” —Simon Sinek

The management educators teach the management graduates through case studies to enable the latter to get into their shoes and explore solutions for pressing problems. The management graduates read and write case studies to excel as successful professionals. Dave Ulrich advises, “If you are to remain the “leaders and best,” your next decade is less about what choices you have and more about the commitments you make by responding to three questions: 1. What do I want? 2. Who do I help? 3. How do I build?” He offers answers to these questions as follows: 1. Know yourself, 2. Give yourself, and 3. Leverage yourself. He revealed, “Sometimes brilliant leaders lack interpersonal savvy. They are lollipop leaders who have a great brain, but no heart. They have not recognized that learning to work with others is a foundation for both personal happiness and professional success. They need to use their strengths to strengthen others.

Create Your Own Destiny

Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” —Brene Brown

We have no control over everything that happens in our lives. But we can make things happen with passion, vision, mission, and execution. So, don’t settle for less. You deserve more than you desire. Dream big. Work hard and smart to accomplish your goals. Remember that you have only one life. Therefore, live your life fully.

Don’t give your pen to others to write your case study. Hold the pen in your hands and write your own case study to inspire others. To conclude, write your own case study instead of writing others’ case studies. Create your own destiny instead of others’ creating your destiny to leave your leadership legacy.

You are the creator of your destiny.” —Swami Vivekanand

More Problems Mean More Opportunities—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—The Father of “Soft Leadership” & International Leadership Guru

"God offers everything on a platter to the fools and throws challenges to the intelligent because fools cannot encounter challenges while intelligent can overcome them successfully." ―Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D., The Father of Soft Leadership

People are often scared of problems and stay away from them. But the truth is that problems unlock their hidden potential and throw innumerable opportunities to grow in life. In this blog post, I will discuss exploring opportunities from problems.

When we look at entrepreneurs and leaders they don’t complain about problems. They see problems as opportunities and think exponentially to create new products and services. They have a unique mindset toward problem-solving.

Currently, COVID-19 was a problem. But it offered humans to think about climate change, communities, and global societies. It made humans simple and humble with an emphasis on hope. Once the infectious disease was a problem. Thanks to Sir Alexander Fleming who invented penicillin and ended it. So, problems bring out the best.

If you perceive problems as problems, they cause you stress and strain. In contrast, if you perceive problems as prospects, they offer you energy and enthusiasm to achieve success. I brooded a lot whenever I had problems in my childhood. After I joined the Indian Air Force when I was 18 years old, I began to view them positively. I identified the root causes and overcame them effectively. After I became a professor in educational institutions, I began to write case studies, explained to students, and improved their problem-solving skills. Additionally, I shared the knowledge freely on my blogs. After I became an author, I began to inspire my readers with positive psychology. Thanks to the change in my perception and improvement in my attitude, personality, and behavior from diversified backgrounds. Currently, I view problems as prospects.

Don't keep your problems pending. Solve them by exploring different solutions. Apply each solution to reach your desired outcomes. If you don't solve the problem, it leads to anxiety and you end up with regrets in your life.

Leave Your Mark

Your ability to solve problems and make good decisions is the true measure of your skill as a leader.” —Brian Tracy

Drew Houston, the co-founder of Dropbox once remarked, “The happiest and most successful people I know don’t just love what they do, they’re obsessed with solving an important problem, something that matters to them. They remind me of a dog chasing a tennis ball: their eyes go a little crazy, the leash snaps and they go bounding off, plowing through whatever gets in the way.” Life is all about packaging and presenting in a positive way to inspire others. Some people rose from the mud like the lotus. Let us look at the lotus, not the mud. Similarly, let us look at the opportunities, not the problems.

Train your brain to view problems as prospects and work smart to achieve your success. Be ahead of time and technologies. Identify the problems that you can solve in the future and offer innovative solutions to stand out from others. Here are some areas where you can explore to leave your impact—cybersecurity, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence to name a few. If you want to leave your mark, identify the challenges of the future, take one challenge you are passionate about, and invent innovative and simple solutions to solve it.

Every problem is a gift. Without them we wouldn’t grow” —Tony Robbins

21 Steps to Write and Publish Your Book—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—The Father of “Soft Leadership” & International Leadership Guru

“Writing a book is an adventure, to begin with, it is a toy and an amusement, then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.” ―Winston Churchill

Writing a book and becoming a published author is a significant achievement that involves several key steps. First, it's essential to write a manuscript that resonates with your target audience and fits within your chosen genre. Once the manuscript is complete, thorough editing is crucial to ensure clarity and coherence. After polishing the manuscript, authors can choose between traditional publishing or self-publishing.

Most celebrities want to write a book but they are scared of writing and publishing it. Writing a book is a challenge for beginners and experienced writers. In this regard, we will discuss and draw a blueprint to write your book and publish it successfully.

I have published 53 books within a decade. It requires passion, vision, discipline, dedication, execution, and excellence to write your book and become a bestseller globally. I read thousands of books during my lifetime. I was a book reviewer for several eminent international journals, including Emerald. It has helped me author my books successfully.

Additionally, I have a flair for writing. My diversified experience including Indian Air Force, entrepreneurship, teaching, training, research, and consultancy helped me author books in diversified areas including success, students, education, entrepreneurship, learning, leadership, training, executive education, executive coaching, diversity, and gender.

How to Write a Book and Become a Published Author

Have you always dreamed of becoming a published author and seeing your book on the shelves? Writing a book can be a daunting task, but with dedication and perseverance, you can turn your dream into a reality. It’s not as easy as we imagine. Somehow, these are the steps you need to take to become a best-selling author.

Step 1: Choose Your Genre and Topic: The first step in writing a book is deciding on the genre and topic you want to write about. Consider your interests and passions, as well as what you think will resonate with readers. Research popular genres and trends in the industry to help you make an informed decision.

Step 2: Create an Outline: Before you start writing, it’s essential to outline your book. This will help you organize your thoughts and ideas, as well as create a roadmap for the writing process. Outline the main plot points, characters, and themes of your book to guide you as you start writing.

Step 3: Start Writing: Now that you have your outline, it’s time to start writing. Set a writing schedule and commit to writing a certain number of words or pages each day. Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can focus and let your creativity flow.

Step 4: Edit and Revise: Once you have completed your first draft, it’s time to edit and revise your work. Review your manuscript for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as inconsistencies in plot and character development. Consider seeking feedback from beta readers or a professional editor to help you polish your book.

Step 5: Research Publishing Options: After you have finalized your manuscript, it’s time to research publishing options. You can choose to traditionally publish with a publishing house or self-publish your book. Each option has its pros and cons, so make sure to weigh them carefully before making a decision.

Step 6: Submit Your Manuscript: If you decide to pursue traditional publishing, research literary agents and publishers who accept submissions in your genre. Write a compelling query letter and submit your manuscript according to their guidelines. If you choose to self-publish, use research platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing or Ingram Spark to upload your book.

Step 7: Promote Your Book: Once your book is published, it’s essential to promote it to reach a wider audience. Utilize social media, book signings, and book reviews to generate buzz around your book. Consider reaching out to book bloggers and influencers for potential collaborations.

Becoming a published author is a rewarding journey that requires dedication, hard work, and a passion for writing. Follow these steps, stay committed to your craft, and never give up on your dream of seeing your book in print. Good luck on your writing journey!

Ensure Longer Lifespan for Your Book

Before writing a book, keep your audience in mind. Find out the longevity of the book. If you can write a book that has longevity, your prospects of becoming a bestselling author are promising. For instance, I authored a book on COVID-19 titled COVID-19: Human’s Search for Humanity. https://www.amazon.in/COVID-19-Humanity-M-S-Rao/dp/9387799492

Before writing this book, I was pretty sure that it would not last for a long time. So, I wrote the book and published it immediately, and the publisher also sold it in good quantity.

I wrote many books that have a long lifespan to enable the books to sell for a longer time and establish myself as an author. I deliberately wrote self-help books that have the longest lifespan to enable readers to read them beyond my lifetime.

For instance, Dale Carnegie’s book How to Win Friends and Influence People is a bestseller and is timeless. So is the case with The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

So, before you write your book, ensure that the book has longevity. The longer the lifespan, the better the sales and the higher the visibility of the book.

A Blueprint to Write and Publish Your Book

Here are some tips to write and publish your book.

  • Find out whether you are passionate about writing a book or it.

  • If you are passionate, be clear about the area you want to write about.

  • Research on that area to identify the gaps.

  • Check whether you can fill those gaps and pull them off successfully.

  • For instance, some writers start a book and leave it halfway as they find it challenging to proceed forward due to a lack of adequate interest and the availability of material for research. It happens to most writers. When I became an author in 2010, I started to write a book on charismatic leadership. But I could not complete it as I did not get adequate material for research.

Additionally, the topic did not create adequate curiosity in me. So, I stopped writing the book and included the written content in another relevant book titled Spot Your Leadership Style. https://www.amazon.com/Spot-Your-Leadership-Style-Build/dp/8182203724

After you decide to write your book, create an outline/skeleton with chapter titles and triggers. Take up each chapter, research, and write the chapter. Don’t attempt to write too many chapters at a time. Take one chapter, write it completely, and move on to the next chapter.

During the process of writing, more ideas flash through your mind to include new chapters in the book. Maintain a separate document for writing your ideas to take forward and include. Completely write all chapters.

Finally integrate all chapters chronologically to complete your book. Remember to be an author first and an editor next. Creating ideas and writing a chapter is more important than editing because editing can be done later. Edit all chapters and reshuffle your chapters to ensure that they are in the right sequence.

Edit and improve your book multiple times to get the best-finished product. Check the authenticity of the data you outlined. Create sample chapters from the book and approach eminent people in the area to write endorsements and a foreword.

After taking a break for a few days, edit and improve your book again. In this way, you improve the quality of your book. Remember, writing a book is easier said than done. It is a painful process with lots of distractions and disturbances. You must focus clearly on your goal of writing.

Identify an Ideal Publisher

Write a book proposal and approach the publishers who can publish your book. Don’t worry if your book proposal is rejected. Every author has several rejections, including J.K. Rowling. Remember that you are not an exception. Be an optimist and send your book proposal to several book publishers until you find the best and ideal publisher.

Edit the entire manuscript finally and submit the soft copy to the publisher. You may be asked to modify the manuscript. Follow their guidelines and suggestions strictly. You will be excited when your book sees the light of the day. You forget the entire painful process when you see your book in print. It is like a mother seeing her child for the first time with a smile.

Publish your book through various formats such as traditional publishing, partly traditional publishing, through an agent, or self-publishing. I have published all my books through the traditional method of publishing where I signed a contract with the publisher and published my books.

21 Steps to Write and Publish Your Book

Here is a series of steps to write and publish your book:

  1. Be passionate about writing your book.

  2. Write the book in your area of interest only.

  3. Identify the gaps.

  4. Check whether you can pull it off successfully.

  5. Fill the gaps through research.

  6. Create an outline/skeleton with tentative book chapters

  7. Create triggers for each chapter.

  8. Write each chapter by doing research.

  9. Complete all chapters.

  10. Be flexible and include fresh chapters and content.

  11. Edit all chapters.

  12. Complete the manuscript.

  13. Create sample chapters.

  14. Approach for endorsements and a foreword.

  15. Create a book proposal.

  16. Send the book proposal to the publishers.

  17. Sign the agreement with the publisher.

  18. Share the soft copy of your manuscript with the publisher.

  19. Update and edit your book as per the instructions of your publisher.

  20. See your book in print.

  21. Promote your book on social networks and market it effectively to increase visibility for your book to become a bestseller.

Don’t expect great returns from your book unless you have a strong brand and network to promote your book. The advantage of writing a book is that you build your credibility globally. If your book becomes a bestseller, you increase your visibility globally. Remember, making money from your book is a byproduct. If you want to tell your story to the readers and future generations you must write at least one book in your lifetime.

Final Thought

Writing books is a divine gift. However, you can acquire this gift with passion, practice, persistence, and patience. To summarize, be passionate, create a tentative blueprint of chapters, write each chapter, be flexible to modify your chapters and content, edit your book several times, approach the right publisher, publish your book, and market it aggressively.

How to Make Someone Feel Important—Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.—The Father of “Soft Leadership” & International Leadership Guru

The longer I live and the more experience I have of the world, the more I am convinced that, after all, the one thing that is most worth living for—and dying for, if need be—is the opportunity of making someone else happier and more useful.” —Booker T. Washington, Up from Slavery: An Autobiography

When we want to make others feel important, we shift the focus from ourselves to them. This means truly listening to their thoughts and feelings, acknowledging their contributions, and offering genuine compliments. We can also show we value them by remembering details about their lives and interests, offering help when needed, and simply being present and engaged in conversations. These acts of consideration show them they are seen, heard, and appreciated for who they are.

People often look to elevate themselves rather than others by focusing on their strengths and merits. It is unfortunate to note. People have become so busy that they don’t find time to care for others. The world has become ruthless with cutthroat competition. It is a rat race where no one cares about others. That is the current scenario globally.

God blessed us with life. If everyone thinks of contributing something to others by whatever means most of the problems will be resolved and people feel better, bigger and greater. However, very few people have the time to think along those lines as they don’t find to think through. They are used to routine activities as the way most people don’t breathe even properly due to high stress levels. Where will the world go? Who will save the world and the people? It is time to think through and do something for others to make a difference.

Make a habit of spending some time daily to listen to people and empathize with them. It comforts them. If possible, observe people around you, say a few good things, and motivate them. Who knows? The man whom you motivate might be on the brink of disaster.

The Power of Connection

When you want to make someone feel important, it is essential to show genuine interest in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Take the time to actively listen to them and validate their perspectives. Use their name to personalize your interactions and make them feel seen and valued. Additionally, make an effort to remember important details about their life and show sincere care and concern for their well-being.

By acknowledging and appreciating their contributions, accomplishments, and unique qualities, you can make them feel important and truly special. Remember, the key is to be authentic and sincere in your interactions, as people can often sense when someone is being insincere or trying to manipulate them.

1. Practice Active Listening

Effective communication is essential in any relationship, and listening is a significant part of it. When someone speaks to you, give them your full attention. Maintain consistent eye contact and respond with non-verbal cues to show that you’re genuinely present and engaged. Ask follow-up questions and reflect back on what they have said. This way, you show that you’re listening and that what they have to say is interesting and meaningful to you.

2. Make Time for One-on-One Interactions

Making time for one-on-one interactions can be incredibly impactful. By dedicating individualized attention to someone, you are showing that they are a priority to you. This could involve scheduling a coffee date, going for a walk together, or just having a private conversation where you can focus solely on that person. During these one-on-one interactions, make sure to actively listen, engage in meaningful conversation, and show genuine interest in what they have to say. This focused time together allows for deeper connections to be formed, making the individual feel valued, respected, and important in your eyes.

3. Show Appreciation and Gratitude

When someone contributes to your life in some way, it’s essential to acknowledge their efforts. It’s human nature to want to be recognized for our achievements, no matter how small. Expressing sincere appreciation and gratitude reinforces that the other person is important and that their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

4. Be Respectful and Considerate

Respect and consideration go hand in hand when it comes to making someone feel important. Respecting other people’s boundaries and treating them kindly and compassionately shows that you value them. Pay attention to their body language and take note of any discomfort. Being considerate of others’ feelings is essential to avoid causing unnecessary harm or stress.

5. Offer Support and Encouragement

We all go through difficult times in our lives, and it’s in these moments that we need someone to lean on. Offering emotional support and reassurance shows that you care and that the other person is not alone. In addition, providing words of encouragement and inspiration can be a significant motivator for someone to keep striving towards their goals. This kind of support works as a morale booster and helps them feel important and included.

6. Celebrate Their Successes

Acknowledging someone’s accomplishments is vital to boosting their self-esteem and making them feel important. When someone achieves something that they’ve worked hard for, it’s essential to celebrate it with them—recognize their effort publicly or privately. Celebrating their successes not only makes them feel important but also creates a positive and healthy environment that can be beneficial to everyone involved.

7. Random Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness can make a significant impact on someone’s day. Random acts of kindness demonstrate that you’re thinking of the other person and want them to feel good. Simple gestures, such as a thoughtful note, an unexpected gift, or a compliment, can make them feel noticed and appreciated.

8. Inspire Confidence and Believe in Them

When you believe in someone, it gives them the confidence to try new things or achieve their goals. Instilling confidence in others is essential because it shows that you care about their potential. Encourage them to take risks, try new experiences, and believe in themselves. This kind of support can be life-changing for someone who might have been doubting themselves.

9. Practice Empathy

Empathy involves putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. It requires you to set aside your own perspective and understand the other person’s point of view. Empathy is vital in creating a connection because it shows that you care about the other person’s thoughts and feelings. When someone feels like they are being heard and seen, they feel important.

10. Send Thoughtful Notes and Small Gifts

Sending thoughtful notes and small gifts can be a meaningful gesture. Taking the time to write a heartfelt message or select a small token of appreciation shows that you value and care about them. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive; it’s the thought and effort behind the gesture that count. Whether it’s a handwritten note expressing gratitude or encouragement or a small gift that reflects their interests or preferences, it is a personal touch that can make someone feel special and important. The act of giving something tangible can leave a lasting impression and serve as a reminder of its worth in your eyes.

11. Remember Important Dates and Details

You’re absolutely right! Remembering important notes and dates is a fantastic way to make someone feel important. It shows that you pay attention and that their lives and experiences matter to you. Here are some specific ways you can use this to your advantage:

Birthdays and anniversaries: This is a classic, but for good reason. Remembering someone’s birthday or a special anniversary shows you care and makes them feel valued. A thoughtful card or a small gift can go a long way.

Accomplishments and milestones: Did your friend get a promotion? Did your partner achieve a personal goal? Celebrate their achievements! Acknowledge their hard work and be genuinely happy for them.

Interests and hobbies: Pay attention to what the person is passionate about. Maybe your colleague mentioned they love a particular band, and there’s a concert coming up. Surprise them by getting tickets! These small gestures show you listen and care about their interests.

Past conversations: Referencing something they mentioned before shows you were truly listening. “Hey, I remembered you were interested in trying that new Italian place; how about we go this weekend?” This personal touch builds connections and strengthens the relationship.

Remembering these details personalizes your interactions and demonstrates that you value the person and the relationship.

12. Ask for Their Opinion and Input

That’s a great approach! People feel valued when their thoughts and ideas are considered important. Here are a couple ways you can phrase this to make someone feel like their opinion truly matters:

What do you think about this?” – This is a straightforward way to show you’re interested in their perspective.

I’m working on X, and I value your expertise. Do you have any suggestions?” This personalizes it and flatters their knowledge on the topic.

Can you walk me through your thought process on this?” This shows deep interest in not just their answer but also how they came to it.

By asking for their opinion and input, you not only make them feel valued but also gain valuable insights you might not have considered on your own.

13. Show Appreciation for Their Uniqueness

Here are some ways to show appreciation for someone’s uniqueness:

Be specific: Instead of a generic “you’re unique,” point out something you truly admire about their individuality. “I love how you always wear such vibrant colors; it reflects your personality so well,” or “The way you combine your passion for music with your coding skills is something I’ve never seen before; it’s truly unique!”

Actively listen: When they share their interests or hobbies, even if they seem unusual, give them your full attention. Ask questions and show genuine curiosity about what makes them tick.

Celebrate their differences: Does your friend have an eccentric laugh or a quirky fashion sense? Let them know you appreciate it! “Your laugh is so infectious.

It always brightens my day,” or “You always rock those bold patterns; it takes confidence to pull that off, and you do it perfectly!”

Support their individuality. If they’re pursuing an uncommon dream or interest, be their cheerleader. Offer encouragement and help them find resources if possible.

Embrace their quirks. Everyone has them, and those quirks are often what make them special! Instead of trying to change them, accept and appreciate their unique way of being.

Gift experiences: Look for experiences that cater to their specific interests, such as a class related to their unique hobby or tickets to a performance by their favorite niche artist.

By taking the time to show you appreciate their individuality, you’ll strengthen your bond and create a space where they feel comfortable being their true selves.

In conclusion, practicing these habits is how to make someone feel important so that they can have a better connection with you and the world around them. By giving them your undivided attention when you listen, treating them with respect and kindness, acknowledging their accomplishments, and offering your support, you create a positive impact that can last a lifetime. Remember, a little effort goes a long way, and these habits can become your go-to default for building stronger, healthier relationships.

Little Things You Can Do to Make Someone Feel Important: An Inspirational Story

There was a young woman who was walking in the street. A man who was passing by saw the woman, stopped her shook her hand, and said, “Hi young woman! Where are you going? You look so beautiful! Have a great day!”.The woman was shocked at the stranger who shook her hand with warmth and greeted her with a great smile saying that she was looking great.

She was coming back from the medical store with a small bottle in her hand, wrapped in a cover. She was in great depression as her boyfriend cheated on her and married another woman. She felt let down and depressed. She lost all her confidence and felt inferior because she was not looking, which probably led her boyfriend to dump her and search for some other woman.

During the great depression, she went to a medical store to buy poison to end her life. When she was going back after buying a small bottle of poison, the stranger shook her hand, praised her beauty, and wished her a great day. Then she went to her home and looked in the mirror whether she was looking beautiful. She looked at the mirror several times and began smiling by thinking, “Yes, I am beautiful! What the stranger said was right.

My deserted boyfriend is not lucky enough to enjoy my beauty, and she gradually developed confidence.” Finally, she threw away the bottle containing poison, and she went on to build a great career with a good man and become an international celebrity.

This story reveals the importance of making others feel important thus saving them from the brink of committing suicide. We don’t know how much difference we make by praising and elevating others.

It is essential to appreciate and elevate others. Learn to look at the similarities rather than the differences. Learn to look at your strengths rather than your weaknesses, because what goes around will come back to you.

Here are a few nuggets to make others feel more important.

  • Listen to the other person with the right body language. Step into the shoes and empathize. Nod in agreement appropriately. If the other person is in distress don’t disturb and allow him/her to ventilate problems. Then present your solutions.

  • When a person achieves something praise liberally. But be specific and objective to avoid sounding like a flattery.

  • Identify the key strengths of people and praise them whenever and wherever possible.

  • Adopt the mirroring technique, where you need to convert your body language as per the other person, as it helps in connecting with the other person, making him/her feel comfortable, and creating a common ground.

  • Remember the fact that people have different needs, egos, emotions, and feelings. You cannot adopt a fixed approach or style to touch them. You need to identify each person’s situation and issue to touch and strike an emotional chord with them.

  • Above all, always handhold others.

  • Remember, it takes several years to build relations but takes a few seconds to break it. Hence, present a positive attitude and praise and make others feel more important to touch and connect with them emotionally and successfully.

Final Thought

People might pose a question such as, “At a time when people don’t find time for themselves, how can they find time for their family, friends, and society?” Yes! It is true. As we have responsibility towards our children, we have equal responsibility towards future generations for passing on society’s values and virtues. Hence, it is time for us to find time to think, act, and make a difference for others to take this human civilization to greater heights of glory, not in terms of material but in terms of ideals and ideas.
