Life Is What You Make Out Of It

"You can learn a lot from suffering. Remember, in the ash of suffering a phoenix can be born." ―Professor M.S. Rao

Life is not fair. You must make it fair. Life is never a straight line. It is full of peaks and valleys. It is not a cakewalk. Face challenges squarely.

Change your thoughts and change your life. Improve your attitude towards life. Attitude is to accept the difference between the things that are under your control and that are not under your control and learn to live with the realities.

Your life is in your hands. Will you stop when you encounter failures? Will you bounce back from failures after learning valuable lessons? Some people gave up after they were bankrupt. But there are a few people who bounced back from failures and demonstrated their resilience and tenacity. Elon Musk encountered several failures. Now he is one of the richest persons in the world.

I failed in life many times, but I bounced back. I felt that I had experimented. I learned lessons and moved on in my life. Now I have diversified knowledge from military, business, teaching, research, speaking, and consultancy. I can synthesize to create my knowledge and share it freely with the world. Life is what your entire make out of it.

Takeaway: Convert your threats into opportunities. Turn your scars into stars. You were born to achieve big in your life. Never lose hope. Count your blessings, not brickbats. Life is great.

“Life is what you make it. Always has been, always will be.” ―Eleanor Roosevelt

How To Handle People Who Hurt You?

“The good leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

We are living in an imperfect world. We cannot expect people to be perfect and ethical. We must understand this reality and move accordingly. When you are wrong, apologize and exit gracefully. We live in a materialistic world. We compete with others to ensure our existence and survival. We make many mistakes in life. We make mistakes either consciously or unconsciously. We must realize our mistakes and apologize. It shows our maturity and wisdom. Additionally, we will build a better world.

Self-centered people hurt while others-centered people forgive others. When your expectations are high, disappointments are high, and humiliations are high.

No person is entirely good, and no person is entirely bad. Love is the only solution in this world. Forgiveness is easier said than done. So, practice forgiving the people who hurt you. Life is never a straight line. It is full of appreciation, insults, and humiliations. You must take them in a balanced way. You must let go of unpleasant events and experiences and move on in your life.

Tit for tat is not the solution in this world. Forgive and forget the unpleasant events and experiences in your life to lead your life with purpose and meaning. When you forgive, you sleep peacefully and happily without any regrets. You maintain good health.

Takeaway: Forgiveness is not a weakness. It is a symbol of strength. So forgive and forget the people who harmed you to lead your life mindfully. Don't carry bitterness in your life. Remember, forgiveness is a virtue. Life is great.

How to Be Successful in Life?

“Overnight success is an exception, not a rule. Successful people planted seeds, watered the seeds, and saw the seeds growing into plants and trees. Therefore, make the right choices every day. Stay on your game. Keep going for your dreams.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

When I worked as a professor, students often asked me how to achieve success. It was a general question with many answers. Everybody wants to achieve success, but only a few succeed. Why? There are many reasons. There are many ways to achieve success, but the road to achieving success has some simple strategies. Here are some secrets to achieving success. Check your competence and choose the area. Be passionate. Focus on one area. Work hard, smart and wise. Be an expert in your area.  Emphasize excellence. Be aggressive. Serve the people and society. Have ideas. Persist. Be patient.

Takeaway: Do what matters to you. Do something significant. Treat success as a by-product, not end product. Add value to others.

Change Your Monkey Mind into Focused Mind

“The good leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

We get lots of thoughts and ideas at a time. I jot down those ideas. I shortlist the urgent, important, and passionate ones and work on them with excellence.  I avoid multitasking.

Don’t confuse yourself when you are inundated with too many ideas. Everyone has their style. You must customize the ideas as per your mindset, skillset, and toolset. Don't copy others blindly because what worked for others might not work for you. People are different. Different people need different strokes.

At times monkey mind disturbs while doing our tasks. It is also known as internal chatter. It is quite common and natural for humans. But you must know how to train and tame it. Here is how I manage and please my monkey mind. Whenever I am inundated with too many ideas, I jot down the ideas and then move on with the routine task. You can do meditation. You can write a journal.

Mind and wind are difficult to be controlled, but it is not impossible to control the mind.

Takeaway: The monkey mind is natural and normal. Train and tame it to ensure focus and success in your life. The monkey mind is difficult to control, but not impossible to control. Be focused to hit the bull's eye. Have a razor-sharp focus.

How to Make Your Married Life Happy?

“Life is meant for learning, enjoying, and growing, not for litigating.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

Life is all about adjustment. Get along with your partner by not comparing with others. Here are some tips to lead a happy married life. Respect your spouse. Don’t suspect her. Don’t be pushy. Care and be committed. Stand by your spouse. Be loyal. Be with your spouse through thick and thin. Empathize. Be kind and compassionate. Don’t have unrealistic expectations from your spouse.

There is no right partner on this planet. The relationships are not always absolute. They are variable. There is no ideal husband or wife on this planet. The idea of one life or one partner is fading away gradually because people are changing with changing times and technologies.

Friction occurs within the families. We must find out the ways and means to resolve them. There are three stages of relationships in life―first physical, second mental, and third spiritual. If relationships have to work, partners must undergo this process.

Takeaway: There is no perfect couple on this planet. There will be differences. When the partners have differences, that means they have independent views and opinions.

How to Convert Your Mental Illness into Wellness?

“Nothing is greater than serving others with a great heart. We live in a world where there is a huge competition for takers and the least competition for givers. So, be a giver and serve your societies and communities to build a better world.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

Mental illness is a major threat in the 21st century. It has become more visible and aggressive during the coronavirus pandemic. People stayed at home due to social distancing without any physical interaction with the outside world.

There is nothing to be ashamed of mental illness. You must express it openly. It is like any other illness. Some of the celebrities are coming out openly about their mental illness. Here are some tips to convert your mental illness into wellness. Take charge of your mind and emotions. Engage constructively and creatively. Improve your habits. Pursue your hobbies. Play games and participate in sports. Connect with nature. Go shopping. Interact with others physically. Avoid stress and burnout. Consult a therapist. Do mediation or yoga or exercise regularly. Connect with the people who you like very much. Go on travel to different destinations. Go on a pilgrimage. Eat well and sleep well. Join nonprofits. Help people around. Make a difference. It gives you a great sense of satisfaction. Take a break from social media. Use technology judiciously. Leverage your subconscious mind. Write a gratitude journal. Think about the present. Avoid thinking about your unpleasant past. Believe that everything happens for a reason and all that happens for good. Learn to live with the realities. Change with changing times and technologies. Don’t compare with the past and don’t compare with others. Avoid loneliness. Ensure sound sleep, free motion, and good appetite. They are the symptoms of good health.

Takeaway: Engage your mind constructively and creatively to achieve mental wellness.

How to be a Great Teacher?

“It requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects duty, the patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” ―Professor M. S. Rao

Teaching is a service. Teaching is a sacred profession. Teaching is the mother of all professions. Teachers must be passionate about their profession and teach their students with passion. It is an opportunity to inspire students and make students as good citizens and great leaders.

As a teacher, you must teach your students with passion. You must walk your talk. You must be creative. You must research a lot to stay ahead of students because students are much smarter due to accessibility to technology. You must share your knowledge with examples and illustrations. Teach beyond subjects also, if possible. Identify the gems in students and enlighten them. remember that teachers are gemmologists.

In my case, I encourage students. I write a quote on the whiteboard before I teach in the classroom.

Keep concepts and simple and clear. Break complex concepts into small topics and share each small topic with examples. Question students to check their attention. Engage them effectively. Use your sense of humor. Repetition is key. Share the core ideas three times because you find three types of students in your classroom―below average, average, and above-average. So, you must reach out to all students with different intelligence levels. Ask students to repeat the key ideas and insights.

Takeaway: The future of a country depends on the students and the future of students depends on the teachers. So, be a passionate and responsible teacher.
