Mental Illness is a Grave Threat to Humankind

“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.” —Glenn Close

Mental illness is a grave threat to humankind. There are increased cases of mental illness resulting in suicides globally. In this post, we will discuss mental illness and how to address it effectively.

The Bollywood film industry is shedding crocodile tears over the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput. He was driven to suicide due to politics in the film industry. His career dipped due to inner politics in the film industry. He was left with no option but to commit suicide. But suicide is not the solution to several challenges in society. People must fight back to establish and prove themselves.

Tips to Overcome Mental Illness

Here are some tips to overcome your mental health issues. Don’t feel shy to open up yourself. Talk to your reliable friends to share your inner emotions and feelings. Eat well and exercise regularly to build your energy levels. Do meditation or yoga. Read good books. Surround with positive and healthy people. Listen to soft music. Travel to unwind. Have sex regularly. Look at the door that is opened. Have an attitude of gratitude. Express your gratitude to God everyday morning for gifting one more day to live and add value to others. Consult the doctor if you feel that you are unable to control the symptoms. Don’t treat it as a sigma. Remember that one in four in the world has mental health issues.

Mental illness is worse than coronavirus as it kills people silently and regularly. Remember that life is short and cutting it shorter by committing suicide is deplorable.

Tips to Deliver Your Commencement/Graduation Speech Successfully

"Of all the talents bestowed upon men, none is so precious as the gift of oratory. He who enjoys it wields a power more durable than that of a great king. He is an independent force in the world. Abandoned by his party, betrayed by his friends, stripped of his offices, whoever can command this power is still formidable." ― Winston Churchill

I was not blessed to study in standard educational institutions and I was not blessed to teach in standard educational institutions. Yet, I achieved success in my life because of my self-education, learning, and bitter experiences.

I was invited to deliver a convocation address in 2020. Here is how you can proceed with your commencement or graduation speech. When you want to deliver an inspiring commencement speech, research about the audience thoroughly, brainstorm several ideas, shortlist the best one, prepare a unique content and rehearse several times to build your confidence, connect with your audience effectively and ensure takeaways successfully.

Here are some tips to deliver your speech successfully. Keep your speech between 10 to 15 minutes. Focus maximum on three ideas and share with anecdotes, examples, and illustrations. Avoid using famous quotes. When you are invited as a speaker, you are special and your messages should become quotes for others. Avoid sharing conventional content. Instead, share unconventional and unique content to make your speech memorable and everlasting. Speak in simple sentences and make inspiring statements. Share them slowly to enable your audiences to digest the essences easily. Use your body language positively. Use your sense of humor appropriately. Share inspiring and emotional stories successfully. Remember, your speech must come from your heart, not head.

Good luck!

Toxic Family and Toxic Environment: My Life has been Painful. Life is Great

"I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged." —J. K. Rowling

I was born in a toxic family and grew in a toxic environment. My childhood was painful with suffering and struggles. I was passionate about reading and acquiring qualifications but I was a dyslexic with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). I was a below-average student. I did not enjoy convent education. I used to go to substandard schools and assisted my father after school time in his tea stall—sometimes collecting cash, sometimes making tea, and sometimes cleaning dishes left by the customers. So, I could not enjoy my childhood with my passions and sports. God was kind to me and showed me the path to join the Indian Air Force (IAF) when I was 19 years old. That was the place I started to grow as a positive and healthy individual eating well, exercising well, studying well, and receiving a little payment every month. When I joined IAF I was not even a graduate. But I continued my education and acquired several qualifications by working hard in service and sacrificing my leisure time and holidays to pursue education through correspondence courses. I earned, my DME, BSc, MA, PGDCLL, PGDBM, and MBA while serving in the Indian Air Force, and finally earned my Ph.D. in 2011. I did a business that did not workout ended up with financial challenges. My wife, two sons and I have been undergoing financial challenges for the last 13 years. We lived in a single bedroom flat and slept on the floor without cot. My life has been painful. I was cheated by my siblings and rogue relatives. But God has been kind to me by holding my hands and showing me the right path to share my knowledge freely with the world and serve others. Life is great.

Words of Wisdom―Parents, Children, Brand, and Nepotism in India

“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.” —Billy Graham

The children of the present generation leverage the brands of their parents but most of them fail to carry forward the legacy of their parents. They take their parents for granted when they were alive but exploit the brands built by their parents. In fact, their parents struggled, suffered, and worked hard to build their brands from scratch but children rarely understand and empathize with their parents.

It the children are competent, they will earn themselves and build their brands. If the children are incompetent, they will ruin the wealth created and shared by their parents. Hence, the present generation of parents must provide good education, character to their children. Additionally, they must teach their children to face challenges in life. It helps their children understand the peaks and valleys in life, become empathetic, and successful in the long run.

I am against nepotism and favoritism. I personally don’t encourage parents to share their brands and wealth with their children. Parents must give freedom to their children to choose their careers and lead their lives independently. It is the need of the hour in the rapidly changing world.

“Your story is the greatest legacy that you will leave to your friends. It’s the longest-lasting legacy you will leave to your heirs.” —Steve Saint

Words of Wisdom―Challenges for Aged Parents in India

“Old age, believe me, is a good and pleasant thing. It is true you are gently shouldered off the stage, but then you are given such a comfortable front stall as spectator.” —Confucius

When children undermine the father in front of their mother constantly, there will be a rift between mother and father. When children undermine the mother in front of their father, there will be a rift between mother and father. Such constant acts create a gap between parents in the long run. In some cases, they pave the way for parents to go for divorce. Therefore, it is the responsibility of children not to create any rift between parents. They must empathize with their parents and underscore the sacrifices made by the father in front mother and that of the mother in front of the father. In Indian society, parents expect their children to take care of them in their old age since there are no social security measures for parents in old age. In the current scenario, there is no such scope for children to take care of old parents as they migrate to other places for their survival and success. It is a great challenge in the present society, especially in Indian society. It needs to be addressed earnestly to ensure the safety, security, and dignity of aged parents.

Children realize the challenges of parents when they reach their old age. By the time it is too late as parents are no more in this world.

Words of Wisdom―Reinvent Yourself if You were Born in a Toxic Family

“The most loving parents and relatives commit murder with smiles on their faces. They force us to destroy the person we really are: a subtle kind of murder.” —Jim Morrison

Being born in a good family or a bad family is not in your hands. It is your karma. If you were born in a toxic family, you don’t have to regret it because you have an option to evolve as a healthy individual. Instead of blaming your toxic family, develop a positive attitude to lead a healthy life, and set an example for others to follow. Similarly, being born in a rich or a poor family is not in your hands. It is your karma. What is in your hands is to work smart to become rich. If you end up poor in life, that is your mistake, not your parents’ mistake. The conclusion is that your life is in your hands. You can become the way you want to become. You have a choice. Remember that the lotus comes from the mud. Similarly, some of the great people came out from the mud of toxic families. They showed the light to the world, guided the world, and left this world as legends. Life is great.

"Man has three friends on whose company he relies. First, wealth which goes with him only while good fortune lasts. Second, his relatives; they go only as far as the grave, leave him there. The third friend, his good deeds, go with him beyond the grave." —The Talmud
