Words of Wisdom―Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.

Here are my suggestions in turbulent times especially in Covid-19. Take care of your health. Protect your employment. Don’t spend money unnecessarily. Never invest in one area especially in shares. Don’t get influenced by others especially in investments. Diversify your investments into real estate, gold, savings, equities, and insurance to minimize risk. Update your knowledge, skills, and abilities to stay relevant and competent globally.

The World is United to Fight Against Coronavirus―Share if You Care!

“The three golden rules of COVID-19: 1) Isolate. 2) Isolate. 3) Isolate.” ―Steven Magee

Covid-19 hit the headlines globally. It was an outbreak first, epidemic second and is pandemic now. The silver lining over the dark cloud is that it has united all humans across the world irrespective of communities, nations, and geographies. There is more emphasis on humanity than ever before. Kudos to Coronavirus!

Currently, there is no vaccine or drug for Covid-19. It is expected that medical professionals will soon find a vaccine or drug. If you are sick, avoid contact with others. If you have symptoms of common cold or flu, meet your doctor for medication. If you have Covid-19, wear a facemask to prevent spreading the virus to others. Follow the government guidelines strictly. Don't take it easy. The best way is to isolate yourself from others.

Coronavirus is a challenge for humans. It appears like an alien attacking the earth with vengeance. You can easily fight against a visible enemy, but it is difficult to fight against an invisible enemy. All humans must be prepared to fight against this invisible enemy. The fear of Covid-19 is worse than the real Covid-19. So, let us overcome the fear by equipping with authentic information and acting responsibly to combat this pandemic.

Covid-19―A Global Leadership Challenge

Leadership is about having both short-term and long-term strategies. Currently, there is a need to have a short-term strategy to check this pandemic to avoid further deaths. The long-term strategy is to prepare plans ready to combat these kinds of pandemics in the future. World War I and World War II were confined to specific nations. However, Covid-19 appears like World War III and it has spread across the world. India has extended its help to China at this hour of crisis despite having several long-pending border issues.

Let us wage a World War III medically to protect entire humankind. Medical professionals must quickly invent a vaccine to check this virus. Humans are blessed with creativity and are capable of exploring solutions for the problems. I am optimistic that medical researchers and practitioners collaborate to combat this invisible enemy.

World Health Organization (WHO) is playing a crucial role to check this pandemic by informing and enlightening people across the world. We must rise to this challenge and help as much as we can to alleviate human suffering. We must empathize with others. We must donate as much as we can. Those who don’t have money, they must invest their precious time by participating in nonprofits to add value to the global society.

What Would I Do If Today Was My Last Day?―Professor M.S. Rao, Ph.D.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” ―Khalil Gibran

What would I do if today was my last day on earth? Very simple. I accept the reality of life. I express my gratitude to God for gifting me with a great life inundated with innumerable challenges with more failures and less successes. I spend my day with my wife and I thank her for her unconditional love and support especially during my failures. I phone and thank my best friends who helped me overcome challenges that arose due to my rogue relatives. I thank my siblings for cheating me and teaching me valuable lessons in life. I thank my students for their love and affection. I share a post on my blogs and social media platforms with my students, fans and followers globally with a message ‘Goodbye’ with gratitude.

With Gratitude!

"I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and I saw that life is all service. I served and saw that service is a joy." —Khalil Gibran

I thank God for the opportunity to lead my life mindfully and meaningfully in diversified areas including military, business, teaching, training, research, consultancy and philanthropy. I express my gratitude to God for blessing me with many roles in my life as a soldier, entrepreneur, educator, editor, author, adventurer, explorer, philanthropist, and spiritualist. What a great opportunity for me to lead many lives in one life! I am grateful to God! With gratitude!

“I often wonder what I will be remembered in history for. Scholar? Military hero? Builder?” ―Ferdinand Marcos

How to Settle Property Disputes Privately? ― Share if You Care!

“Be leery of silence. It doesn't mean you won the argument. Often, people are just busy reloading their guns.” ―Shannon L. Alder

Disputes are common in families and friends. They are expected in personal, professional and social life. What is expected is to demonstrate composure and maturity to think through coolly to search solutions for the disputes. In this post, I discuss resolving disputes privately in a gracious manner to leave a mark for others to follow.

Settle Disputes Privately

Parents must distribute their wealth to children before relationships go sour. It helps keep families intact to leave a better legacy. Some parents are indecisive resulting in litigations and infighting in children. Observe the following tips to settle disputes privately. Understand the issue clearly. Set SMART goals. Be tough-minded but reasonable in terms and conditions. Be flexible to give away something to take something from the dispute. Empathize with others. Listen to all sources but make your own decision based on your head, heart, gut, and intuition. Strive for a win-win outcome. After resolving the dispute avoid discussing it with others to enable the other person to lead a happy and peaceful life.

Conclusion

Don’t get provoked by others. Use your ethics and etiquette to win your argument rather than to cut the corners. You will be remembered in history for your principles and philosophies. So, maintain impeccable integrity to resolve disputes privately. Life is short. Why should we make it sour? Let us make it sweet by settling disputes privately through discussion and dialogue. Life is great.

Coronavirus: Dos and Don’ts―Share if You Care!

“Fear, left unchecked, can spread like a virus.” ―Lish McBride, Necromancing the Stone

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has become a global menace throwing several challenges and myths. For the first time, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 disease to be a pandemic. It has created apprehensions among the people. Adding fuel to the fire, the international media hyped it. In this post, I will outline the dos and don’ts to protect yourself from this pandemic.

What is Coronavirus?

The dramatic spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has disrupted lives, livelihoods, communities, and businesses worldwide. It is a highly infectious disease spread from person-to-person through sneezing, or coughing, human to human contact and contact with contaminated surfaces. It attacks people with poor immunity. The signs and symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing and other flu-like symptoms like running nose, sneezing and body weakness. The bad news is that there is no vaccine to prevent it currently. If this virus is not checked it will adversely affect people’s livelihoods and business continuity.

Things to Do

Here are the things to do. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or, use an alcohol-based hand rub. This will remove the virus if it is on your hands. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or a handkerchief when coughing and sneezing. Throw away the used tissue immediately and wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub. The handkerchief must be washed by yourself daily and ironed with a hot iron. In this way, you protect others from any virus released through coughs and sneezes. Maintain a reasonable distance between yourself and someone who is coughing, sneezing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Hands touch many surfaces that can be contaminated with the virus and you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself. If you have fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing, seek medical care immediately. If possible, call a health worker and alert them about your condition. Always follow the guidance of your health care worker. People with flu-like symptoms should use face masks to cover the nose and mouth and stay home in a well-ventilated room. If you are caring for individuals who have symptoms, such as cough and fever you are encouraged to use a face mask to cover your nose and mouth for personal protection. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs/handles, car doors, elevator buttons, etc. daily with a regular household disinfectant or soap and water. All travelers coming from countries affected by the Coronavirus disease should follow the guidance given by health workers at the airport and other border entry points.

Things not to Do

Here are some don’ts. Avoid close contact with people who are visibly sick with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sneeze). When sick with flu-like symptoms avoid going to public places, offices, and public gatherings. Remain at home to avoid infecting others. You do not need to wear medical masks if you do not have respiratory symptoms such as cough, sneezing or running nose. Don’t take self-medication such as antibiotics. Don’t spit in public. Find a secluded place like toilets or pit latrines in which to spit. Delay travel to countries that currently have many patients with Coronavirus disease. Avoid travel if you have flu-like symptoms. Observe these dos and don’ts to keep away from this disease.

The integrated and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders including health officials, public servants and business communities are essential to mitigate the risk and impact of this unprecedented global health emergency.

Acquire the Right Mindset to Lead Your Life with Purpose and Meaning―Share if You Care!

“I think anything is possible if you have the mindset and the will and desire to do it and put the time in.” ―Roger Clemens

Acquiring the right mindset is essential to lead a peaceful, happy and prosperous life. It is easier said than done. In this post, I will discuss mindset management and offer tools to acquire the right mindset to lead your life mindfully.

Mindset management is the process of managing your mind positively and productively to accomplish your goals and objectives and lead your life with purpose and meaning. To acquire the right mindset, look at the positive aspects of the people and society. Spread positivity in others. Let bygones be bygones. Forgive and forget the people who betrayed you. Develop an attitude of gratitude.

Your thoughts create your emotions. Control your thoughts to control your emotions. Avoid negative self-talk. Don't become a victim of circumstances. Have the right mindset when things go wrong. Master your circumstances. Be stoic and remain calm. Maintain peace and tranquility. Understand what you can control and cannot control. Don't worry about what you cannot control. Avoid multitasking and procrastination. Discipline is very important. Focus on your tasks, execute them effectively, and follow up regularly. Work for a cause, not applause. To summarize, associate with healthy friends. Shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Come out of your comfort zone. Be bullish about your life but be prepared for bearish times. Participate in nonprofits. Add value to others. Make a difference.

Conclusion

“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.” ―Steve Maraboli

A child can focus but the grownup person cannot focus due to distractions arising from technology. Therefore, use technology wisely. Comfort is the enemy of success. So, come out of your comfort zone and acquire the right mindset to achieve success in all spheres.

When Will My Time Come?―Share if You Care!

“I will prepare, and one day my time will come.” ―Abraham Lincoln

Most people on the earth are optimistic about their good time especially when their time is bad. Life is full of peaks and valleys. Every rise has a fall and every fall has a rise. There is a sunrise after the sunset. Despite knowing this universal truth, most people worry excessively about their problems without exploring solutions. The good time arrives when you prepare consistently in your area of interest with passion and dedication.

When you work hard, smart and wise, your time will come. Your time will not come when you sit idle. Your time will come when you take action. Your time will come when you draw a strategy and adopt different tools and tactics effectively. Things happen at their own pace, not as per your expectations and aspirations. There is always a gap in time and timing between your expectations and realities. Fulton J. Sheen rightly remarked, “Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is "timing" it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.”  Hence, be patient and prepare persistently to wait for your day. Remember, every dog has its day.

Plan Mindfully and Work Productively

“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” ―Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace.

No power on the earth can prevent the talent coming to the top. So, never wait for your time. Invest your present time productively and effectively to enable your good time to arrive early. When you pray to God your prayers will be heard. But your time will come when you come out of your comfort zone and take action. So, take action right now to enable your time to come early.

“All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.” ―Walt Disney
