How to Be Successful in Life?
“Overnight
success is an exception, not a rule. Successful people planted seeds, watered
the seeds, and saw the seeds growing into plants and trees. Therefore, make the
right choices every day. Stay on your game. Keep going for your dreams.”
―Professor M.S. Rao
When I worked
as a professor, students often asked me how to achieve success. It was a
general question with many answers. Everybody wants to achieve success, but
only a few succeed. Why? There are many reasons. There are many ways to achieve
success, but the road to achieving success has some simple strategies. Here are
some secrets to achieving success. Check your competence and choose the area.
Be passionate. Focus on one area. Work hard, smart and wise. Be an expert in
your area. Emphasize excellence. Be
aggressive. Serve the people and society. Have ideas. Persist. Be patient.
Takeaway: Do what
matters to you. Do something significant. Treat success as a by-product, not
end product. Add value to others.

Change Your Monkey Mind into Focused Mind
“The good
leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders
do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.”
―Professor M.S. Rao
We get lots
of thoughts and ideas at a time. I jot down those ideas. I shortlist the
urgent, important, and passionate ones and work on them with excellence. I avoid multitasking.
Don’t
confuse yourself when you are inundated with too many ideas. Everyone has their
style. You must customize the ideas as per your mindset, skillset, and toolset.
Don't copy others blindly because what worked for others might not work for
you. People are different. Different people need different strokes.
At times
monkey mind disturbs while doing our tasks. It is also known as internal
chatter. It is quite common and natural for humans. But you must know how to
train and tame it. Here is how I manage and please my monkey mind. Whenever I
am inundated with too many ideas, I jot down the ideas and then move on with
the routine task. You can do meditation. You can write a journal.
Mind and
wind are difficult to be controlled, but it is not impossible to control the
mind.
Takeaway:
The monkey mind is natural and normal. Train and tame it to ensure focus and success
in your life. The monkey mind is difficult to control, but not impossible to
control. Be focused to hit the bull's eye. Have a razor-sharp focus.

How to Make Your Married Life Happy?
“Life is
meant for learning, enjoying, and growing, not for litigating.” ―Professor M.S.
Rao
Life is all
about adjustment. Get along with your partner by not comparing with others.
Here are some tips to lead a happy married life. Respect your spouse. Don’t
suspect her. Don’t be pushy. Care and be committed. Stand by your spouse. Be
loyal. Be with your spouse through thick and thin. Empathize. Be kind and
compassionate. Don’t have unrealistic expectations from your spouse.
There is no
right partner on this planet. The relationships are not always absolute. They
are variable. There is no ideal husband or wife on this planet. The idea of one
life or one partner is fading away gradually because people are changing with
changing times and technologies.
Friction
occurs within the families. We must find out the ways and means to resolve
them. There are three stages of relationships in life―first physical, second
mental, and third spiritual. If relationships have to work, partners must
undergo this process.
Takeaway: There is no
perfect couple on this planet. There will be differences. When the partners
have differences, that means they have independent views and opinions.

How to Convert Your Mental Illness into Wellness?
“Nothing
is greater than serving others with a great heart. We live in a world where
there is a huge competition for takers and the least competition for givers.
So, be a giver and serve your societies and communities to build a better
world.” ―Professor M.S. Rao
Mental
illness is a major threat in the 21st century. It has become more visible and
aggressive during the coronavirus pandemic. People stayed at home due to social
distancing without any physical interaction with the outside world.
There is nothing to be ashamed of mental illness. You must express it openly. It is like any other illness. Some of the celebrities are coming out openly about their mental illness. Here are some tips to convert your mental illness into wellness. Take charge of your mind and emotions. Engage constructively and creatively. Improve your habits. Pursue your hobbies. Play games and participate in sports. Connect with nature. Go shopping. Interact with others physically. Avoid stress and burnout. Consult a therapist. Do mediation or yoga or exercise regularly. Connect with the people who you like very much. Go on travel to different destinations. Go on a pilgrimage. Eat well and sleep well. Join nonprofits. Help people around. Make a difference. It gives you a great sense of satisfaction. Take a break from social media. Use technology judiciously. Leverage your subconscious mind. Write a gratitude journal. Think about the present. Avoid thinking about your unpleasant past. Believe that everything happens for a reason and all that happens for good. Learn to live with the realities. Change with changing times and technologies. Don’t compare with the past and don’t compare with others. Avoid loneliness. Ensure sound sleep, free motion, and good appetite. They are the symptoms of good health.
Takeaway: Engage
your mind constructively and creatively to achieve mental wellness.

How to be a Great Teacher?
“It
requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If
a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects duty, the
patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and
if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” ―Professor M.
S. Rao
Teaching
is a service. Teaching is a sacred profession. Teaching is the mother of all
professions. Teachers must be passionate about their profession and teach their
students with passion. It is an opportunity to inspire students and make students
as good citizens and great leaders.
As
a teacher, you must teach your students with passion. You must walk your talk.
You must be creative. You must research a lot to stay ahead of students because
students are much smarter due to accessibility to technology. You must share
your knowledge with examples and illustrations. Teach beyond subjects also, if
possible. Identify the gems in students and enlighten them. remember that
teachers are gemmologists.
In
my case, I encourage students. I write a quote on the whiteboard before I teach
in the classroom.
Keep
concepts and simple and clear. Break complex concepts into small topics and
share each small topic with examples. Question students to check their
attention. Engage them effectively. Use your sense of humor. Repetition is key.
Share the core ideas three times because you find three types of students in
your classroom―below average, average, and above-average. So, you must reach
out to all students with different intelligence levels. Ask students to repeat
the key ideas and insights.
Takeaway:
The future of a country depends on the students and the future of students
depends on the teachers. So, be a passionate and responsible teacher.

Professor M.S. Rao’s Republic Day Message 2021
Dear
brothers and sisters,
I
wish all Indians across the world a happy republic day!
We
are celebrating the 72nd republic day on 26th Jan 2021. As
a citizen of this great country, it is a great honor to share my thoughts with
fellow citizens. We overcame several challenges in the recent past especially
coronavirus that has thrown the world out of gear. India`s recovery rate from
coronavirus is rising. We have got the vaccine and are gradually coming out of
this pandemic. We showed the world that we Indians are resilient by nature. We
have lots of issues internally and externally especially across the border. We
are confident of resolving and overcoming them soon.
India has brought a few reforms in education through National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It eliminates rote learning and encourages practical learning. It inculcates scientific temper in students at a young age. It emphasizes creativity and critical thinking in the children.
There
is growing urbanization and there is an urgent need to build homes for the
homeless in India. All stakeholders including intellectuals, educators,
government, NGOs ad industry must collaborate and work hard earnestly to build
a strong India.
India
is gifted with both natural resources and human resources. It is time we
realized the importance of human resources dominated by the young population
and utilized them for nation-building. Government alone cannot do everything.
People must come forward to build a better and stronger India. The Indians who
adapted to other countries are doing great and bringing laurels to our country.
Indian CEOs are doing good globally leading Google and Microsoft.
India
impacted, influenced, and inspired several eminent international leaders. Barack
Obama in his bestselling book ‘A Promised Land’ talked about the greatness of
India and the influence of Mahatma Gandhi on him. We taught the world that
independence can be achieved through peace and non-violence. There are a few
Nobel Laureates who are the followers of Mahatma Gandhi―Martin Luther King Jr,
Aung San Sui Kyi, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, and Barack Obama.
Here
are some messages on the eve of Republic Day. Love your mother. But don’t hate
another person’s mother. As your mother is precious to you another person’s
mother is equally precious to them. As your region and language are precious to
you, they are equally precious to others. Therefore, let us develop the mindset,
skillset, and toolset to grow as global citizens. Advocate gender equality
globally. Emphasize women's empowerment. Remember, a bird cannot fly with one
wing. It needs two wings to fly. Similarly, a society cannot grow without the
support of women. Both men and women must collaborate and work hard to build a
strong and prosperous world.
We
Are Blessed To Be Born In India
We
are blessed to have been born in India, a nation that emphasizes Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam (The World is One Family). We are all blessed to have been born in
India. We are blessed to have been born at the right time in Indian history to
make our impact and contribute our best both locally and globally. Let us
improve our attitudes, become punctual, and enhance our commitments to build a
better and stronger India. Let us emphasize secularism, respect diversity,
promote fraternity, and maintain the unity and integrity of India. Let us take
a pledge that we will make India a great nation in the world. Let us contribute
our best to make India a Super Power in the world. God bless India. God bless
the world. Jai Hind.

There Are No Disappointments In Life, Only Experiments
"You
can learn a lot from suffering. Remember, in the ash of suffering a phoenix can
be born." ―Professor M.S. Rao
When
you fail in accomplishing your aspirations and expectations you get
disappointed. Disappointments are quite common in life. You must know how to
deal with them effectively. When you have long-term goals, you don't bother for
disappointments. Everything happens for a reason. I failed many times in my
life. I was rejected many times. Harvard rejected my application for a
postdoctoral course in 2016. I was unmoved. I keep moving forward. Life is
never a straight line. It is full of peaks and valleys. Take feedback. Get back
to action. Identify the barriers and remove them. Explore options to fulfill
your expectations and aspirations. Set realistic goals and objectives. Don't
give up. Be consistent in your efforts. Be persistent. It is not intelligent
but the persistent will succeed in the end.
Disappointments
are temporary. Understand what you can control and what you cannot control. Focus
on what you can control in life. Life is a journey. It is full of good times
and bad times. Don’t get excited when you accomplish your goals and don’t get
dejected when you encounter failures. Stay level headed.
My
life is full of setbacks, disappointments, and failures. When you want to
achieve big, you encounter lots of disappointments. It is great news because
your dreams are bigger, your goals are bigger and your courage is higher. So,
don't treat them as disappointments. Treat them as experiments. Try again.
Takeaway: Treat
disappointments as learning experiences. There are only experiments, no
disappointments.
“There
are no disappointments in life, only experiments.” ―Professor M.S. Rao
