Towards ‘One Education and One Nation’ Policy in India―Share if You Care!

“It requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects his duty, the patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” ―Professor M. S. Rao

Everyone talks about Indian education as defective. Most of them are aware of the problems plaguing with the prevailing educational system. A few of them offer solutions to overcome. What we must do is to analyze the challenges, offer creative ideas, and implement them effectively to achieve a values-based education system in India. In this post, we will discuss the challenges and solutions in the Indian education system concluding with a uniform education policy in India.

Indian Education System

“Do not train children in learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” —Plato

Presently the Indian education system is exam-oriented, not learning and employment-oriented. There is a lack of quality education and character education. Corruption entered educational institutions thus becoming cancer to Indian society. Here are some ideas to consider improving the Indian education system.
  • Make education affordable to all.
  • Emphasize more on primary and second education.
  • Ensure educational institutions with adequate infrastructure and facilities.
  • Provide an ambience for students to learn and grow.
  • Customize courses as per the changing times and technologies.
  • Make pedagogy student-centric, not teacher-centric. Apply different strokes to different students as all students are not alike in intelligence and understanding.
  • Provide faculty development programs to upgrade teachers and trainers. Equip them with technology.
  • Encourage creativity and innovation. Ensure that students become employable and deployable in the workplace.
  • Emphasize curricular and extracurricular activities to enable students to evolve as well-rounded personalities.
  • Eliminate corruption from educational institutions. Eliminate bogus educational institutions. Address the irregularities in the educational institutions earnestly.
  • Emphasize character education because education without character is abortion.
  • Offer values-based education.

Conclusion

“Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” —John Dewey

We have one GST in India. Why shouldn’t we have one educational policy in India? Of course, there will be challenges from different States. India is the largest democracy in the world and the second largest populated country in the world. Hence, adopting a uniform education policy is very challenging but it is worth exploring ways and means to achieve ‘one education, one nation’ policy in India to build a strong and prosperous India. Jai Hind.

“In the future, the learners will inherit the earth, while the learned will find themselves beautifully equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.” —Eric Hoffer, Philosopher
