New Year Resolutions 2018! ― Share if You Care

Dear friends, fans and followers,

I wish you an exciting and happy new year.

“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” ― G.K. Chesterton

The year 2017 passed peacefully and successfully and we are looking ahead 2018 with enthusiasm and excitement. It is time to take feedback for the year 2017 to enable to come out with new resolutions to lead our personal, professional and social life meaningfully.

Be excited with your past achievements and analyze the failures to learn lessons and carry forward the left-over resolutions with optimism. Here are some resolutions to consider in the new year.
  1. Express your gratitude. Thank God for giving you an amazing life to live and lead further and provide meaning to your life. Thank your friends and relatives for their unconditional love and support.
  2. Meditate regularly to remove negative thoughts from your mind and replace them with positive thoughts.
  3. Ensure work-life balance. God gifted 24 hours to everyone. It all depends on how you manage them based on your priorities and principles. Take care of your health by going to gym or a walk to keep yourself physically fit.
  4. Be a lifelong learner. Learning doesn’t mean reading books alone. It includes observing people, listening to them and learning from your failures. You can learn from various sources such as observation, experience, trial and error method, books and blogs, training and teaching.
  5. Participate in philanthropic activities. Donate money to nonprofits. If you don’t have money, invest your precious time regularly to nonprofits. The biggest gift you can give to others is TIME. Hence invest your time for charities and philanthropic activities.
  6. Add value to you, your family and society. We brought nothing to this world when we were born, and we carry nothing from this world when leave this world. Hence, add value to others to make a difference to the world.

Keep people before profit. Volunteer to serve others. Enjoy the journey of your life to reach your destination. Life is great!

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” ― Muriel Strode

Why do only a Few Film Stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Chiranjeevi Succeed? ― Share if You Care

“There’s no such thing as overnight success. That’s my concern with a show like American Idol. It encourages the false belief that there’s a kind of magic, that you can be 'discovered.' That may be the way television works, but it’s not the way the world works. Rising to the top of any field requires an enormous amount of dedication, focus, drive, talent, and 99 factors that they don’t show on television. It’s not simply about being picked. Which, by the way, is why very few of the anointed winners on American Idol have gone on to true success. Most have flamed out and gone away. That should tell us something.” ― Malcolm Gladwell

When I was travelling in the month of December 2017, a person asked me a question, ‘Why do some celebrities fade away?’ and ‘Why do only a few celebrities succeed?’. I have posted articles about reinventing and branding globally. Here are some ideas and insights about this trigger:

When you look at most film stars and celebrities they fade away. We find only a few of them maintaining celebrity status and building their brands consistently. When you look at Bollywood hero, Amitabh Bachchan, he continued to be on the top in spite of crossing 75 years of age. Of course, he had a bad period but regained his position by reinventing from an ‘angry young man’ to a ‘humble personality.’ There are innumerable reasons for some celebrities for maintaining their lead consistently in their areas. This chapter highlights some of the reasons and the ways to be on top of the race forever.
  • Be dedicated in your area of interest. Some celebrities take success for granted and lose their focus and dedication. For some celebrities, success goes to their heads. In fact, achieving success is hard and retaining your success is harder. Hence, you must be dedicated in your area and add value consistently.
  • Emphasize growth mindset, not fixed mindset. Fixed mindset does ordinary activities while the growth mindset does extraordinary activities. Fixed mindset revolves in comfort zone while growth mindset revolves in an effective zone with agility and vitality. Fixed mindset emphasizes issues and individuals while the growth mindset explores ideas.
  • Be a lifelong learner. Reinvent regularly. What worked in the past may not work now and what worked now may not work in the future. Hence, observe new trends and adopt new technologies to stay relevant, competent and successful. Remember to learn, unlearn and relearn.
  • Don’t bother for setbacks and failures. Life is full of peaks and valleys. All human beings have their own share of failures and setbacks for some period in life. Hence, keep adding value to your area and profession irrespective of the outcomes.
  • Be emotionally intelligent. Get along with all people without hurting them. Take criticism in your stride. Learn lessons from your failures. When your time is bad, lie low for a while to bounce back with a bang. Remember, every dark cloud has a silver lining.
  • Don’t indulge in personal attacks to kick up controversies because controversies give a temporary fame but end with a permanent shame.
  • Work for satisfaction, not for recognition. When you work for recognition, you lose your momentum and motivation because you don’t get recognition for all the activities that you do. It may lead to self-doubt thus losing your self-confidence. Hence, work with focus and dedication emphasizing excellence.
  • Participate in philanthropic activities. Add value to the society. Money comes and goes. Popularity is a passing cloud. Life is great when you truly add value to others. When you look at India’s megastar, Chiranjeevi, he adds value to society through philanthropic activities through ‘Chiranjeevi Blood Bank’.

Additionally, acquire soft skills to get along with people in the industry. Avoid controversies. Don’t badmouth people and carry forward information. Don’t interfere into others’ personal affairs and activities.  Be careful what you speak and write. Above all, be a professional to excel as a leader.

Conclusion

“Success is just a war of attrition. Sure, there’s an element of talent you should probably possess. But if you just stick around long enough, eventually something is going to happen.” — Dax Shepard

I have come across some of my friends who are international management thinkers and leadership gurus becoming irrelevant. It is because they failed to do further research in their core areas. They failed to author books, publish research papers and articles. They failed to adapt to rapid changing times and technologies. Hence, work harder and smarter and contribute consistently to remain on top of the race; and add value to the society through philanthropic activities to provide meaning to your life.

Do You Invest in Land or Data to Grow Rich? ― Share if You Care

“One of the most gratifying results of intellectual evolution is the continuous opening up of new and greater prospects.”  —  Nikola Tesla

Traditionally people invested in land to grow rich whereas currently people invest in data to grow rich. We all are aware that knowledge is power. It is the knowledge which is going to rule the world, not the land. When people acquire wealth, they can do charity or philanthropy to add value to the society whereas when people acquire knowledge and share it with others, they make a difference to the future generations. That is the power of knowledge! People who believed in land bank lived in their lifetime whereas people who believed in data bank live beyond their lifetime by adding value to the future generations. In a nutshell, land bank is mortal while data bank is immortal.

The people who have access to the information can reap several benefits. The people who own data can reap greater benefits when they analyze, interpret and apply in their life. Hence, emphasize data, not land to grow rich in the present world.

“Most people don’t lead their life, they accept their life. People who lead their life intentionally add value to others. — John C. Maxwell

Are Trials in Your Life Blessings in Disguise? ― Share if You Care

My wife and I visited Tirupati to pray to Lord Balaji in the month of December 2017 to accomplish my ‘Vision 2030 One Million Global Leaders’ URL: http://professormsraovision2030.blogspot.in/2014/12/professor-m-s-raos-vision-2030-one_31.html With lots of difficulties and waiting in the queue for more than seven hours, we had darshan with God and returned to our room where the temple provided subsidized rooms for the pilgrims. We decided to go Chennai to visit a few more temples in the next day morning and meet our friends. For me, friendship is thicker than blood. We got up early in the morning at 4 AM on 09 December 2017, took bath and vacated the room. When I was boarding the local bus in Tirumala, I slipped and fell down on the road. There were bruises, scratches, bleeding on my left knee and right hand. I felt bad because it happened after I prayed to Lord Balaji. My wife considered it a bad omen and advised me to cancel our visit to Chennai. But I was firm to proceed further and we went to Chennai.

I served in Indian Air Force and acquired the habit of going to gym regularly and walk regularly. I go for walk every day for more than an hour by wearing shoes. Hence, slipping from the local bus was something strange to me. It was very strange that I fell in spite of being very cautious. After I went to Chennai we visited temples and enjoyed the scenic beauty in Marina beach in Chennai. I wanted to meet three old friends. I met friend but I could not meet two more friends. The problems cropped up when I wanted to meet two more friends. When I told my friend, Narendra in Chennai that I fell while catching the bus in Tirupati, he said, “Thank God, it was a small accident happened to you! Probably something bigger accident was averted by Lord Balaji.” I thought that my friend was consoling me to come out this accident. I nodded my head because I see the positive things from negative things. Germany Kent rightly remarked, “Stay positive. Sometimes you don't even realize you're blocking your own blessings by thinking negatively and holding on to the past. Learn to let go.” I feel that everything happens for a reason.

“Faith in God will elevate you to next level blessings.” ― Germany Kent
