“An Open Letter to Shri K. Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana – Close Fraudulent Private Colleges in Telangana to Enhance Quality Education to Students” ― Professor M.S.Rao




Dear Honourable Chief Minister of Telangana,

You must have heard about oil mafia, sand mafia and now you must hear about college mafia who are fraudsters and leeches who suck money from students through dubious means; ill-treat faculty; and cheat the leaving faculty without paying their salaries and filing false cases against them.

While I appreciate your sincere efforts to close down the erring and unethical educational institutions in Telangana, there are still fraudulent colleges that cheat university officials during inspections, cheat students and faculty; and government through false reimbursement claims.   

I worked in various private engineering colleges in Hyderabad and found a lot of irregularities and corruption. I regret to bring it to your notice publicly that a college in Hyderabad cheated me by not giving my salary more than three months causing mental agony and hardships to me and my family. I complained to appropriate forums including AICTE Chairman and the Registrar of JNTU Hyderabad. The AICTE Chairman, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, and the Registrar of JNTU Hyderabad, Dr. N. Yadaiah are aware of my issue and know my name. In spite of my repeated requests to credit my salary, the college has not credited my salary into my account. I don’t want other intellectuals to undergo agony like me. Hence, I am writing openly some of the irregularities happening in private engineering colleges in Telangana State to bring to your notice so that you can take remedial measures to streamline the education system:
  • Most colleges don’t have adequate infrastructure. Students don’t have adequate facilities to acquire quality education. Required number of laboratories are not available.
  • Most colleges don’t have adequate faculty strength. These notorious colleges engage ghost faculty. That means they hire the faculty at the time of inspection to cheat the visiting inspection officials.
  • Most colleges don’t pay salaries as per the norms. They show on record that they pay as per the latest pay commission and follow the norms. They are notorious by crediting the salaries into the accounts of faculty and withdrawing the differential amount forcibly on the same day through self-withdrawal forms signed by the faculty. Any bank official can easily identify these irregularities. Any person with common sense can easily identify how colleges cheat intellectuals by taking their signatures on the withdrawal forms on the day of giving salaries. At times the faculty end up paying more income tax as officially the salary on records is higher than what is received in reality.
  • The faculty don’t receive their salaries on time. Most colleges don’t pay salaries to the leaving employees. Worse some colleges don’t give relieving order to the relieved employees. The owners are sadists without any ethical values, and they harass leaving intellectuals by various means. When the leaving faculty challenges them, these fraud managements file wrong cases against such employees. 
  • The name of the same faculty member appears in other colleges also. Previously, these fraud colleges collected fee reimbursement from government fraudulently by showing fake students.
  • These fraud colleges give advertisement to recruit faculty. They get lots of CVs at the time of recruitment and misuse CVs during inspections. At times, these fraudsters take scanned copies of certificates from the prospective applicants before interview and show them during inspections without the knowledge of faculty. Faculty won’t be recruited and the colleges misuse the documents.
  • These fraud colleges have close nexus with other fraud colleges. They share faculty members to cheat inspection officials from their affiliated universities. They fool students and officials by listing ghost faculty.
  • The college owners are notorious for inviting the influential university officials for ‘guest lectures’ and ‘graduation day’ events and pay handsome remuneration. It is an indirect way of bribing these university officials.
  • These fraud colleges openly flout the norms. They are confident that they can bribe officials during inspections. The corrupt officials are not in the mood to redress the grievances made against these colleges by students and faculty.
  • The inspecting officials are aware of the irregularities in these colleges. These colleges are noted for offering bribes to visiting inspection officials. Some of the university officials are corrupt, and they hardly take any action.
  • These fraud colleges flout labor laws, and the labor officials are aware of them but they don’t take any action since they also receive bribes regularly.
  • Some of the colleges are run by so called entrepreneurs with criminal background. Some money lenders, toddy contractors and real estate agents have reinvented as educational entrepreneurs to cheat students, faculty, university officials and government. They have no passion or vision to build quality educational institutions. Their mission is to cheat somehow to make quick money. How can you build Bangaru Telangana with such managements?
  • Some of the visiting officials during inspection are very strict and honest. They cancel affiliations to erring colleges. The owners of these private colleges apply political pressure on these university officials based on caste, community or region. When honest university officials cancel affiliations, the notorious owners approach courts and bribe there also.


Solutions

Here are some solutions to these problems. We must have quality educational institutions, not quantity. Cancel affiliations to the fraudulent colleges with a track record of complaints such as not paying salaries to the leaving employees and collecting extra fee from students indirectly through dubious means. Create a grievance cell where faculty and students can complain irregularities anonymously. Ensure that every college has adequate number of faculty as per the prescribed norms, laboratories and infrastructure to run courses successfully. Make biometric attendance system for faculties, students and employees compulsory. Check the bank records of each college whether the salaries are paid promptly. Check the open irregularities such as taking the differential salary amount from the faculty forcibly on the day of crediting the salary. Involve income tax authorities to check these irregularities.

It is time you checked these unethical businessmen masquerading as educationists. Remember, if corruption enters into educational institutions and armed forces, the country will collapse.

Educational institutions are the temples of learning. The onus lies with you to maintain sanctity by weeding out fraudsters and criminals. Only then you will be able to ensure quality education and shell out students with ethical values.

I request you to build a strong educational system where intellectuals are comfortable with pay and perks to share their knowledge, and students are confident of acquiring knowledge to grow as healthy citizens. Jai Hind!

“Tips to Lower Your Back Pain Successfully” ―Professor M.S.Rao

Research shows that most people suffer from lower back pain globally. Reports of lower back pain are higher among the people who lead a sedentary professional life. It is also more among athletes and sportspersons.

Many people think that back pain cannot be cured. The fact is that back pain can be cured if people follow a disciplined life. Here are some tips to lower your back pain.
  • Do physical exercises regularly to stretch your body and develop flexibility and agility.  
  • If you sit in front of computer system for a longer time, make it a practice to get up periodically to stretch your body.
  • Hit gym and consult the coach or trainer who will give you a set of exercises to do. Follow them sincerely. If you find that there the pain gets severe, avoid doing those exercise. Instead, do exercises that give you relief from pain. Include cardiovascular exercises along with stretches in your list of exercises.
  • Go for a walk regularly. Avoid jogging as it might create friction in your lower back.
  • Go for swimming. It is a great exercise impacting all areas in your body effectively.
  • Consult physiotherapist who will help you do exercises effectively. Initially, do under his supervision to lower your pain and then do independently.   
  • Excess weight puts excess strain on your spine. Hence, ensure that you maintain your weight as per your height, age and gender. 
  • Avoid taking drugs such as pain killers.
  • Do yoga regularly.
  • Avoid stress and anxiety. Don’t brood over your lower back pain. Give enough rest to your body by sleeping. It gives you relief from pain.
  • Sleep on hard bed. If possible, sleep on the floor.
  • Don’t go for a complete bed rest. Get up and do light physical exercises as prescribed by physiotherapist or doctor or trainer.
  • Go for surgical treatment, if the pain is severe.

As age advances, there is a loss of bone strength from osteoporosis leading to fractures. Hence, lower back pain is more common in old age people.


At the Workplace

Keep yourself ergonomically supported when you work. Keep your feet firmly on the floor. Ensure that you are using a right desk chair to support your lower back. Sit upright for most of the time although it is difficult. Change your postures regularly. It prevents you from putting pressure on a few portions of your body for a longer time. Take break from your work every one hour and stretch your body. Do exercises in your office gym, if it is equipped. Remember, lower back pain can be cured if you take appropriate steps sincerely and timely.


Conclusion

Walter Anderson once remarked, “Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself.” It requires a change in attitude and approach to handle this issue. People must understand the challenge in the early stage to bring a change in their work and habits to cure their lower back pain.

“Work for Satisfaction, not for Recognition ― Be Above Padma Awards” ―Professor M.S.Rao




“It requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects his duty, the patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” ― Professor M.S. Rao, Author of ‘Vision 2030: One Million Global Leaders.’


Padma Awards are very prestigious awards given by government of India for contribution to various areas every year. They are awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. They were instituted in 1954 to be awarded to citizens of India in recognition of their distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the Arts, Education, Industry, Literature, Science, Sports, Medicine, Social Service and Public Affairs. They have also been awarded to some distinguished individuals who were not citizens of India but contributed in various ways to India. The recommendations for Padma Awards are received from the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations, Central Ministries/Departments, Institutions of Excellence, etc. which are considered by an Awards Committee. On the basis of the recommendations of the Awards Committee, and after approval of the Home Minister, Prime Minister and President, the Padma Awards are announced on the eve of the Republic Day. They are conferred by the President at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan in March/April every year. Most Indians consider it an honor to receive these prestigious awards.

Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. However, there are controversies behind these awards. There is often a criticism that some deserving citizens were denied due to political reasons. There are allegations that the eminent people who are close to the government or in the good books of the politicians in the power are bagging these awards.

It is deplorable that some celebrities demand these awards publicly. They use social media to brand themselves and kick up controversies rather than adding value to their domains. It appears that they work hard only for awards, not for their satisfaction and for becoming role models for others. It is unfortunate that most of them overestimate about themselves and underestimate others.


Are Padma Awards a Farce?

There is a feeling that those who are good at networking and lobbying with money power get these awards. The people who have strong connections in the Central Government and the ruling party receive these awards. Critics comment that the selection process is completed flawed since there is limited time available to shortlist the nominations.  They feel that it is a stage-managed drama to conduct the process of selection, and finally the pre-decided list is placed before the committee for endorsement. There is involvement of vote bank politics and regional issues. To overcome the challenges, maintain transparency in the selection process to ensure sanctity to these awards. Remember, it is not who is right or wrong but what is right or wrong matters in the selection process.

The awards must be given to meritorious people with credentials. The background verification must be done before giving away awards. People with criminal background should not be given these awards to avoid mockery and ensure sanctity.


Padma Awards for Educators and Intellectuals

It is unfortunate that the eminent people from academia are not getting their share of awards as they are shy to market themselves. On the other hand, film stars, cricketers and politicians market themselves to get noticed quickly to bag these awards.  It is ironical that cinema and cricket receive more attention and coverage than academia in India.

Government of India must consider giving more awards to educators who build nation by shaping students as healthy citizens and leaders. The intellectuals and educators are not selling themselves currently. In a country like India, they are admired with great respect but not given adequate representation in allocation of awards. It is time Indian government considered allocating more awards to educators and intellectuals.


Work for Satisfaction, not for Recognition

Padma Awards are only recognition to your distinguished service. Your satisfaction that you truly added value to your area and the people around you is more important than the so-called recognition. Do your duty sincerely without expecting any returns. You will be recognized and earn such awards. Above all, remember to live in the hearts of the people, not in the minds of the people. Padma Awards can take you to the minds of the people temporarily whereas when you truly add value to your domain and society, you live in the hearts of the people permanently. When you look at late A.P.J Abdul Kalam, he lives in the hearts of the people. When you look at Mahatma Gandhi he did not receive Nobel Prize but five of his followers ― Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Barack Obama, and Aung San Sui Kyi received Nobel Prizes. It is obvious that Mahatma Gandhi was above Nobel Prize.

To conclude, deliver your best to your area without expecting any returns. Add value to your area and make a difference to the world. Be above Padma Awards. You will be remembered beyond your lifetime as a legend.

We are all blessed with a huge potential. We must understand this fact and unlock our potential. However, most people waste their precious time by thinking about their unpleasant past which cannot be changed, and worrying about their future which cannot be predicted. What we have now is the present. Hence, we must make use of the present to unlock our hidden potential to achieve amazing success in life, and help others grow in their lives.

Great leaders are great learners, and help build the next generation of leaders. Hence, you must grow as a leader first to groom others as leaders.

Most people think that they cannot become leaders, when in fact, everybody is a leader. The mother who leads at home; the father who takes responsibility; and the janitor who delivers his goods with excellence is a leader. Leaders are the ones who lead from the front by taking responsibility. They spread fame during successes and take blame during failures.

Hence, take responsibility to lead from the front. Realize your hidden potential as everybody is born as a genius, and nobody is born as a stupid. Develop a positive, right, and strong attitude to excel in your life. Contribute your best. Emphasize excellence regardless of the area of activity you are into. Emphasize means, not ends. Keep people before profit. Make the people around you special, and help them dream and achieve big.

Time is very precious. Whether you are rich or poor, you are blessed with time. Make use of it wisely. You have only one life. Hence, use your time judiciously to provide meaning to your life.

Balance your personal, professional and social life. Trifurcate your goals into three categories such as personal, professional and social goals. Set these goals based on your passions and value system.

Here is the way to go about setting these goals in your life. Ask yourself what you want to achieve in your personal life. Find out your strengths and weaknesses, and set your personal goals based on your passions and strengths. Identify the careers in which you are passionate about, and set your professional goals accordingly.

Finally, what value would you like to add to society? What would you like to be remembered for? And set your social goals accordingly.

Surround yourself with positive people to build a better world. Remember that knowledge is more important than money. Hence, share your knowledge to make a difference to the world.

Work for satisfaction, not for recognition. Remember, satisfaction is the end-product while recognition is the by-product. Be passionate about what you do. Don’t worry about setbacks. Think out-of-the box to achieve success in your personal, professional and social life.

Be a continuous learner and take feedback constantly to grow in life. As long as you love and learn, you are young. The day you stop loving people and learning things, you become old.

Imagine how different your world would be if you started each day with the wisdom learned from household names like Sir Richard Branson (Virgin) and Guy Laliberte (Cirque du Soleil) to thought leaders like Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul) and Marci Shimoff (The Secret). So far more than 1000 Luminaries have been featured, including me. That's a lot of inspiration and I'm proud to be a part of it!

Remember, when we get caught up in our own stories and start to forget our own design as infinite beings, it is inspiration that turns the ordinary into extraordinary, fear into hope and the darkness into light. Inspiration reminds us that we are greater than we seem, and more resilient and powerful than we think.

Welcome to Sharing Leadership Ideas and Insights: Moments and Memories on Indian Educational Institutions through Storytelling. I am passionate about students and sharing my knowledge with them. I served as a professor in various Indian educational institutions with several memories and moments. In this book, I share leadership ideas and insights and my sweet and bitter experiences with various educational institutions. Currently there are innumerable challenges for students, educators, parents, managements and regulating bodies including AICTE. This book is an endeavor to highlight the challenges from all stakeholders to address them earnestly to build a strong Indian education system and a healthy society.


Vision 2030: One Million Global Leaders

I have a dream that I will build one million students as global leaders by 2030. I am confident that I will make it happen.

Globally there is a looming leadership crisis due to the retirement of Baby boomers. Gen Y is not ready to undertake leadership roles and responsibilities since they are not equipped with leadership skills and abilities. Due to the sudden exit of Baby boomers, organizations will suffer due to dearth of experienced leadership talent. Therefore, I created a vision to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. Since I belong to Gen X, I consider it an opportunity to bridge the gap between the Baby boomers and Gen Y. I am passionate about leadership and teaching profession. Additionally, I am passionate about students. I have diversified areas of experience including defence, industry, teaching, training and consultancy. Hence, I decided to blend my diversified experiences with my passionate area of leadership to build global leaders. Some of my students express their reservations about my vision. I inform that I am only 53 years old with very high energy levels with a passion to make a difference to the world.  Additionally, I make use of social media to reach out to students globally.

To achieve anything in life, dream is imperative.  I have a dream that I will be able to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. It is possible as age is my favor and I have already trained 35000 students so far, and I can easily accomplish my dream to build the balance global leaders by 2030.  I also started building team of students to work with me through online to accomplish my vision. Leaders are dreamers; they craft their vision and work hard relentlessly to accomplish their vision. Remember, everything is possible if there is passion, vision, commitment, and persistence.
