“Let new India arise out of peasants
cottage, grasping the plough, out of huts, cobbler and sweeper.” — Swami
Vivekananda
Indians celebrate Republic Day on 26th
January every year as the Constitution of India came into force on this day in
1950. Here are some areas we must consider
improving to build a strong and prosperous country.
Education: We must emphasize making Indian education
system practical. Currently it is following rote learning and producing
educated illiterates. We must emphasize more on employability than employment.
Employability is about upgrading skills, abilities and knowledge constantly to
stay relevant as per the current times. It is to learn, unlearn and relearn
regularly. Employment is the ability to grab jobs. Due to rapid growth in
technology, the skills and abilities are getting irrelevant quickly. Hence, we
must learn constantly. Additionally, there is no permanent employment, but only
permanent employability in the world. Education must open the window to the
outside world. It must make people understand what is just and right. It must
help them realize their hidden potential to add value to them and society.
Economy: Indian economy is not growing
rapidly. We must utilize our natural and human resources to ensure rapid progress
to build a strong economy. India is still a developing nation in spite of
achieving independence almost seven decades ago. There are four countries — BRIC
(Brazil, Russia, India and China) that have potential grow globally. India is
blessed with the young population in the world. Hence, it is time for all
Indians to work hard and smart to leverage the youth to build a strong economy.
Environment: We must stress on ecology to build a
clean and healthy environment. We must protect our mother earth by taking
environment-friendly measures to ensure better civilization.
Empowerment: To achieve rapid economic growth,
empower people with right tools and techniques. Emphasize on women empowerment
to take country forward rapidly. Remember, no society can grow without the active
participation and support of women.
Ethics: We must emphasize more on means than
ends. We must achieve success with integrity. We must emphasize on spiritual
values rather than on materialistic ones.
Conclusion
“Toleration and liberty are the
foundations of a great republic.” — Frank Lloyd Wright
India is a land of dreams where dreams
become realities. We must be proud to be born in a country where a Sikh can
become the Prime Minister. We must be proud to be born in a country where a Muslim
can become the President. We must be proud to be born in a country where a woman
can become the Prime Minister. We must be proud to be born in a country where a
woman can become the President. We must be proud to be born in a country where a
tea seller can become the Prime Minister. India offers equal opportunities to
all Indians irrespective of gender, region, religion, race, ethnicity, language
and community. That is the greatness of India!
We must be proud of being Indians first and last. Above all, we must be
proud to be born as Indians. Jai Hind!
“We are Indians, firstly and lastly.”
