Soft Skills for Millennials (Gen Y) and Centennials (Gen Z)
“Hard
skills can be automated, not soft skills because soft skills are interpersonal
skills and closely related to emotional intelligence which are hard to teach,
train and impart to humans.” ―Professor M.S. Rao
The
older generations such as Baby Boomers and Generation X interacted with others
and acquired emotional intelligence and soft skills. However, they are not
tech-savvy. They are slow to catch up with technology. The present generations such
as millennials (Gen Y) and centennials (Gen Z) rarely interact with others. They are glued to smartphones
and gadgets. They are experts in digital tools and technologies. They are
tech-savvy. They are smart and brilliant. They must acquire emotional
intelligence and soft skills. Technology cannot replace soft skills. A
judicious blend of both hard and soft skills helps them achieve professional
success.
Takeaway: The
millennials and centennials must acquire soft skills and blend them with hard
skills effectively to excel as achievers and leaders.

What Travel Teaches You
"To
travel is to lead." ―Professor M.S. Rao
When
I served in the Indian Air Force, I traveled often on various aircraft. I worked
in a Mi-17 helicopter. I traveled the entire India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Traveling teaches you tolerance. It teaches you many things. You observe different people and their cultures, languages, and foods. You understand and appreciate them. You empathize with them and develop a universal mindset. You inculcate cultural intelligence, acquire cultural competence, achieve cultural compatibility, and grow as a global leader. Your perception of the world changes. You learn a lot. You improve empathy, emotional intelligence, and soft skills.
Message
If you don’t travel, you remain like a frog in the well. Travel is the best teacher opening a window to the outside world. Therefore, everyone must travel. To conclude, make it a practice to travel once a year.

Rise Like a Phoenix
"You
can learn a lot from suffering. Remember, in the ash of suffering a phoenix can
be born." ―Professor M.S. Rao
Iconic
leaders including Abraham Lincoln, Beethoven, Michael Jordan, Charles Darwin,
Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Walt Disney, Colonel Sanders, Steven Spielberg,
Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk bounced back from their failures.
They rose like a phoenix and inspired others to dream and achieve big in life.
People often think that iconic leaders achieved success by luck. They hardly
understand the struggles these iconic leaders underwent. The fact is that
iconic leaders encountered innumerable challenges before making it big finally.
Luck is only a minor portion. The major portion is their hard work, wise work, and
smart work.
Great
leaders rose from several struggles and sufferings. They overcame several
challenges. They were often written off by others. Critics thought that these
great leaders were finished. But they bounced back. They proved their critics wrong.
They rose from ashes like the phoenix.
You
will come out of the troubles and rubbles. Fight back. Fight to the finish. Take
your battle to your logical end. Prove your critics wrong. Prove your
backstabbers wrong that you are not finished. You are down temporarily, not out
permanently.
I was born into a toxic family. I was betrayed by my relatives but rescued by my friends. My rogue relatives thought that I was finished. The fact is that they don't know that I have acquired many qualifications including my Ph.D. and reinvented myself as a professor and author. Remember, you may be down. You will never be out. You will rise like a phoenix. You were born with a purpose. You were born to achieve big in your life.
Message
Life
is never a straight line. Covert your scars into stars. Every fall has a rise.
Rise like a phoenix. Life is great.
