“Film Stars must Reinvent their Careers to Avoid their Extinction” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“I am not a product of circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” ― Stephen Covey

Some people achieve career success quickly while some achieve it slowly. There are some people who encounter career stagnation leading to extinction. There are a number of reasons for such career stagnation and extinction.

People often explore the same trend in which they are successful. What made them to be successful might not be successful to reach their next level because the tools and techniques to reach each career stage are different and they must be customized.

When you look at successful film stars they explore playing new characters from time to time. They experiment regularly and work hard to get into the role of each character in each film resulting in coming out of their comfort zones. They slog very hard to prove themselves in each different character. The audience doesn’t get bored as they see their favorite film stars in diversified roles and characters. The audience also appreciates versatility. In this way, film stars are able to unlock their full potential and gradually carving a niche for themselves due to constant exploration and experimentation. Hence, to avoid career stagnation and extinction, it is essential to explore different areas from time to time and reinvent to stay relevant and beat competition.

Take Inventory of Your Inborn Talents

Take inventory of your strengths and weaknesses. List out your gifts to convert them into cash. For instance, I am strong in teaching, training, authoring, and research and consulting. I read a lot and gather information. I have the ability to convert the information into knowledge and synthesize with my 35 years of diversified experience. I author books on leadership. I am strong on social media with a reasonable number of followers. Hence, I blog articles in my area of interest and share them with the world free. In this way, I make a difference to the world and make my presence felt globally. Similarly, you must find out your inborn gifts and channel them in a right way to fast-track your career and build your brand globally.

Focus Horizontal and Vertical Career Growth

People often emphasize either on horizontal career growth or vertical career growth. What they must do is to emphasize both horizontal and vertical career growth simultaneously. It calls for crafting a career vision. When you choose your career in the initial stage, you must set your vision keeping both horizontal and vertical career growth in view. Then you must invest your efforts consistently and work hard relentlessly. Build your network accordingly to explore career opportunities. If you find that you face a challenge in your career, take a sabbatical to recharge your batteries to chart a new course. Approach experienced professionals or career consultants to seek guidance to set your career straight.

Conclusion

When you look at Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Liz Wessel, they planned to enter into boardroom when they were in classroom by following their heart. Jesse Kaplan did the same in his Harvard dorm.

Monotony in the workplace often leads to frustration. Monotony in your career often leads to extinction. Ensure that your workplace is quite challenging and your career is exciting.  To conclude, craft your career vision; build connections; explore opportunities; reinvent your career tools and techniques; and raise your bar constantly to fast-track your career.

“A Blueprint to Build Your Global Business Empire Successfully” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“If you don't build your dream, someone else will hire you to help them build theirs.” ― Dhirubhai Ambani, Against All Odds: A Story Of Courage, Perseverance And Hope

It is a well-admitted fact that some businesses succeed while some fail miserably. There are a number of reasons for both successful and unsuccessful enterprises globally. In this regard, we will discuss some sutras and strategies to build your global business empire successfully.

To build a successful business empire, you must have a blueprint with vision and viable execution. It is essential to ensure alignment of your products or services, customers, financial institutions and above all, employees. It is ideal to follow the philosophy of ‘employees first, customers second and shareholders third’ to last your business empire beyond your lifetime.

A Blueprint to Build Your Global Business Empire

"Ideas attract money, time, talents, skills, energy and other complementary ideas that will bring them into reality." ― Mark Victor Hansen

The business leaders must find out the products and services that will be in great demand in future. They must see whether there is longevity for those products and services. They must approach financial institutions who can provide capital with low rate of interest, and be with them during the test of time. They must hire the right people for the right posts emphasizing organizational culture because organizational culture brings the people together and connects them emotionally into one platform. When you look at Alan Mulally, he created ‘One Ford’ slogan and connected all employees emotionally to turnaround Ford. Once there is a healthy organizational culture, it is easy to motivate employees to produce goods and services as per the tastes and temperaments of customers and clients.

Peter Drucker once remarked, “The purpose of a business is to create a customer.”  Hence, the business leaders must create customers and clients for products and services. They must reinvent regularly to keep pace with the rapid changing business environment. In this internet world, more competitors come up quickly to copy and start the business. Hence, the business leaders must develop niche areas to stand out from others. They must regularly create new products and services with an emphasis on innovation. Apple is an inspiring example for innovation. It stood out from other global companies because of innovation. It could beat cut-throat competition due to constant innovation. B. C. Forbes rightly remarked, "If you don't drive your business, you will be driven out of business."

During the course of execution of strategy, the business leaders encounter lots of challenges internally and externally. It is essential to have alternative plans ready to resolve them. The internal challenges can be handled easily while the external challenges cannot be predicted but must be handled with patience and perseverance.

Agility and Adaptability

“The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time.” ― Henry Ford

Competition is cut-throat globally. Customers and clients are demanding more than what they pay and deserve. Hence, it has become a big challenge for businesses. To beat competition, the enterprises must be agile and adapt to the business environment. They must constantly change their strategies, and tools and techniques to do business because what worked in a particular scenario might not work in another situation. They must be ahead of the race. And to stay ahead of the race, they must keep an eye on the developments, and do research regularly and anticipate the expectations and aspirations of the customers. Only then will they be able to survive and succeed in the current dynamic global scenario. Several companies became obsolete as they failed to anticipate the developments and adapt. Hence, business leaders must make a note of these aspects while doing business.

Conclusion

Jack Welch once remarked, “Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.”  Set a vision and execute it effectively. Emphasize on strategy and culture. Manage internal and external challenges successfully. Learn, unlearn and relearn with the changing times. To conclude, there is no one-size-fits-all blueprint to build a successful business empire globally. This is a basic blueprint to build your business empire. You can customize it depending on the size, scale, type of industry and country you do your business. Good luck to building your successful global business empire!

“If you build that foundation, both the moral and the ethical foundation, as well as the business foundation, and the experience foundation, then the building won't crumble.” ― Henry Kravis

“A Letter to Indian Media ― Step-Motherly Treatment for Educators and Intellectuals by Indian Media” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.” ― Malcolm X

Why there is a step-motherly treatment for educators and intellectuals by Indian media?  Indian media glorifies cricketers and film stars more than what they truly deserve. It hardly cares for educators who shape students and build the nation and the world. It hardly cares for intellectuals who voice their views and opinions without any fear and favor.  APJ Abdul Kalam was an exception where Indian media highlighted and elevated him. It is a silver lining to the dark could to Indian media.  Abdul Kalam is a symbol of hope and optimism for more than a billion Indians because he rose from humble origins and made a significant difference to Indian space technology and students.

Indians are basically interested in 2Cs – Cinema and Cricket. The Indian media dances as per the tunes of Indians to ensure its survival and enhance TRP ratings by highlighting and sensationalizing actors and cricketers. In India, negative news sells more than positive news! A section of Indian media reports rapes, suicides, atrocities, corruption, cheating, and extramarital affairs. It doesn’t concentrate on developmental news. Peter McWilliams once remarked, “The news media are, for the most part, the bringers of bad news... and it's not entirely the media's fault, bad news gets higher ratings and sells more papers than good news.”

The Indian media should publish positive and developmental news to create healthy minds in healthy bodies. Democracy stands on four pillars – legislature, judiciary, executive and press. All the pillars must be strengthened to strengthen democracy because people can accomplish their aspirations and dreams only in a democratic society. India is the largest democracy in the world while America is the oldest democracy in the world. Indian press must play a constructive and crucial role to make Indian democracy the healthiest in the world.

The Indian press must play a constructive role to report positive and accurate news. It must also respect the intellectuals and educators by covering their news and achievements to inspire readers and young generations. Jai Hind!

“All of us who professionally use the mass media are the shapers of society. We can vulgerize that society. We can brutalize it. Or we can help lift it onto a higher level.” ― William Bernbach

Free Sample Chapter―Professor M.S.Rao’s Book “Soft Leadership: An Innovative Leadership Style to Resolve Conflicts Amicably through Soft Skills and Negotiation Skills to Achieve Global Stability, Peace and Prosperity”

Dear friends,

Here is the sample chapter of my book, “Soft Leadership: An Innovative Leadership Style to Resolve Conflicts Amicably through Soft Skills and Negotiation Skills to Achieve Global Stability, Peace and Prosperity.” This book introduces and explores “soft leadership” to achieve global stability, security, peace, and prosperity. It explains the causes, effects, and remedies for global conflicts and wars. It draws a blueprint to resolve conflicts amicably. It illustrates with inspiring examples of great global leaders including Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, and Nelson Mandela. It emphasizes on Mahatma Gandhi’s twin principles of truth and non-violence. It implores to replace religion with love to build a better world. It implores to love your mother but don’t hate another person’s mother.

You may share your thoughts about this book on social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+.

1 – Introduction

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

Welcome to Soft Leadership: An Innovative Leadership Style to Resolve Conflicts Amicably through Soft Skills and Negotiation Skills to Achieve Global Stability, Peace and Prosperity. It is an extension of my award-winning published book, Soft Leadership: Make Others Feel More Important. The previous book introduced soft leadership from scholarly perspective. The present book which you hold on your hands is for both scholars and practitioners to see soft leadership in action with examples and illustrations of international leaders. It explores soft leadership from the perspective of global stability, peace, and prosperity.

Presently people across the globe are getting impatient, intolerant, and agitated on others on petty issues.  It appears to be lack of respect toward others’ religions, regions, races, languages, ethnicities, cultures, and communities. Additionally, the aspirations and expectations of all stakeholders are rising rapidly. For instance, children demand more from parents; students demand more from educators; subordinates demand more from superiors; employees demand more from employers; followers demand more from leaders; and people demand more from nations. In fact, people are becoming more rights-oriented rather than duty-oriented.  They must remember John F. Kennedy’s quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”

There must be a shift in the mindset of the people. There must be a need for tolerance and respect toward others. People must be duty-oriented rather than rights-oriented. Empathy is the answer to several pressing global challenges. Empathy is the ability to step into the shoes of others and look at the issues from others’ perspective. However, presently people rarely empathize with others.  When we empathize with others most of the global challenges and conflicts can be resolved quickly and easily. Through empathy, we can put an end to intolerance, impatience, and instability. Through empathy, we can resolve several global challenges amicably. In fact, empathy is essential for global peace, prosperity, stability, and security.

Some people resort to violence to settle their scores. Some countries wage wars to settle their long-pending issues. In fact, violence is not the solution to several global issues. Ralph Waldo Emerson rightly remarked, “Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding.”  Hence, people must shed their violent attitude and respect others through empathy and understanding.

Global Conflicts

People often use force to settle their scores resulting in conflicts and nations use their military force resulting in wars. They hardly understand the fact that there is always room for dialogue and discussion to resolve their vexing issues. Some nations go to war on pride and some leaders declare war to show their strength and supremacy to others. Some religions declare war on others to show their supremacy. Some nations go to war to divert attention from their internal challenges. Likewise, there are many reasons for alarming conflicts and wars globally.

Need for Soft Leadership

The present global scenario calls for new leadership perspective emphasizing on respect to all regions, religions, communities, creeds, and ethnicities. It calls for a new leadership perspective involving negotiation and persuasion with an emphasis on empathy. It calls for partnership, not followership.  Hence, it is essential to emphasize innovative leadership “soft leadership” to resolve various conflicts globally through discussion, dialogue, persuasion, and negotiation. This new leadership perspective can also be used to lead people assertively; to turnaround ailing global organizations; and to achieve organizational excellence and effectiveness.
