Soft Leadership Builds Connections and Improves Businesses

“Soft leadership can be defined as the process of setting goals; influencing people through persuasion; building strong teams; negotiating them with a win-win attitude; respecting their failures; handholding them; motivating them constantly; aligning their energies and efforts; recognizing and appreciating their contribution in accomplishing organizational goals and objectives with an emphasis on soft skills. It is based on the right mindset, skillset, and toolset." ― Professor M.S. Rao

I taught leadership in various educational institutions and the corporate world. I teach leadership to executives whenever I get opportunities. I coined soft leadership that helps improve connections in business internally and performance externally. It appreciates others and makes them feel important. It emphasizes respecting others irrespective of their rank and position. It helps connect with others quickly and greatly with character, commitment, contribution, and communication. It helps connect with internal stakeholders including employees and external stakeholders including customers. Additionally, trust is essential to build connections and improve businesses. Customers often go by referrals and based on their previous experience with their products and services. In this way, satisfied customers bring more business to companies. To conclude, explore soft leadership to build connections and improve businesses.

“The good leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

Leadership Lessons from the Indian Air Force

“In the morning, I create knowledge. In the afternoon, I acquire knowledge. In the evening, I eliminate unwanted information. In the night, I prepare for the next day.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

I served in the Indian Air Force and learned several lessons. In this post, I will outline some of the lessons I learned from it to become a healthy citizen, professor, an award-winning author and keynote speaker globally.

When I was 15 years old, I had the dream of joining the Indian Air Force. But I was short in height with an asthma problem. I went to the gym every day to exercise and increase my height. I joined the Indian Air Force when I was 19 years by discontinuing my graduation. My family was not in a position to provide me education. After I joined the Indian Air Force, I acquired several qualifications including BSc, DME, MA, PGDCLL, PGDBM, and MBA. After completing my duties, I utilized my personal time for education and learning. I sacrificed my annual leave and casual leave to study hard and acquired qualifications. Thanks to the Indian Air Force for giving me the salary, food, and accommodation to serve my nation, acquire education, and support my family financially.

Indian Air Force is such an amazing organization that anyone can join irrespective of their family background. For instance, I was in a tea stall assisting my father hailing a poor family background. After coming from the school, I supported my father in the tea stall by collecting cash, serving food to the customers, and washing dishes. IAF gave me an opportunity to serve my nation. It is obvious that there is no discrimination in recruitment, training, and treatment. It is an ethical and noble organization offering equal opportunities to all.

The Indian Air Force is my most admired organization. I have gratitude for it. I am what I am because of it. It pulled me out of my toxic family and toxic environment. It converted me from a boy into a man and made me a healthy citizen and leader. It removed negative thoughts from my mind and improved my positive attitude towards life and leadership. I was born in a small village and was like a frog in the well. I came out of it because I was associated with other people across India during the training. It inculcated in me discipline and dedication. It developed in me a national mindset and inculcated patriotism. I became flexible, adaptable, and agile. It taught me to take risks and lead a challenging and exciting life. It set my morning routine to get up at 4 AM every day morning and sleep at 10 PM. It made me a leader with a universal mindset.

With gratitude to the Indian Air Force!

Jai Hind.

National Education Policy 2020

“Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” —John Dewey

I am passionate about students and often write about Indian education. In this post, I will discuss the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).

The Indian government has announced the National Education Policy on July 29, 2020. It received both bouquets and brickbats. It has converted the current 10+2 system into a 5+3+3+4 system, i.e., 5 years of primary education, 3 years of preparatory stage, 3 years of the middle stage, and 4 years of secondary school. Examinations will only be held for class 5th, 8th, and 12th. It brings transformational reforms in schools and higher education systems. It ensures the holistic development of students. It shifts focus from ‘what to think’ to ‘how to think’ and from exam-oriented education to employment-oriented education. It discourages rote learning and encourages creative learning. It emphasizes vocational education and practical education. It encourages employability in Indian students by upgrading their knowledge, skills, and abilities. It encourages them to migrate from one profession to another profession, unlike previous education. It makes them as multi-faceted personalities and helps them live many lives professionally. It allowed foreign universities to set up campuses in India thus increasing competition and offering exposure to Indian students. In a nutshell, it had made Indian education global.

NEP 2020 is appropriate and timely in the current digital world as it emphasizes technology-based learning. It shifts focus from teachers-centric education to students-centric education. It shifts from theoretical teaching to practical teaching focusing on life skills, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and soft skills. It encourages students to think creatively and choose subjects that are close to their hearts. It differentiates between chalk and cheese. It prioritizes students to choose subjects and saves their precious time and energy. It offers more flexibility with less pressure on students. It empowers students and offers them with diverse career choices.

NEP 2020 emphasizes empowerment, enlightenment, and employability in Indian students. It is difficult to satisfy all stakeholders especially for a country like India with a 1. 3 billion population. To summarize, NEP 2020 is essential in the current internet world. There is no sense in sticking the outdated education system that emphasized 3 Rs—reading, writing, and reproducing. To conclude, NEP 2020 is a step in the right direction to reform the education system and build a strong and prosperous India.
