“Is Dalai Lama the Living Mahatma Gandhi?” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“The true value of existence is revealed through compassion.” —Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama) is a spiritual leader who is known globally for his spiritual values and pioneering the liberation of Tibet from China. He is one of the rarest leaders who has left an indelible mark in the world with his charisma and compassion. He is a Nobel laureate and one of the followers of Mahatma Gandhi. The other Nobel laureates who are followers of Mahatma Gandhi include Martin Luther King Jr, Aung San Sui Kyi, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama. In this post, let us look at Dalai Lama’s leadership style and the lessons the leaders must learn from him.

Be a Visionary: He has a vision to achieve freedom for Tibetan people. He has a clear cut blueprint to accomplish his vision.
Be an Example: He practices what he preaches. There is no gap between his words and deeds. As a result, he has many followers across the world.
Be a Good Listener: He is a good listener who listens to all with an open mind and then makes his decisions.
Be Compassionate with Others: He is a symbol of compassion. He respects all religions and encourages religious toleration and secularism. He rightly quoted, “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”
Be Humble: He is humble at core and respects everyone. He is down-to-earth.
Be Emotionally Intelligent: He is emotionally intelligent and knows handling various stakeholders effectively.
Be Persistent: He has been persisting for freedom since many years. It is a matter of time to achieve it.
Be an Optimist: He is a born optimist and believes that Tibetan people will achieve their freedom finally.

Conclusion

Dalai Lama is blend of charisma with compassion. He is a symbol of hope for Tibetans. He is a role model for other leaders globally. He is a symbol of peace and non-violence. In a nutshell, he is a living Mahatma Gandhi.  Hence, leaders must learn lessons and apply in their areas to add value and make a difference in the lives of others.

“It is very important to generate a good attitude, a good heart, as much as possible. From this, happiness in both the short term and the long term for both yourself and others will come.” —Dalai Lama
