“Greatness Guide: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Grow as a Global Leader”– Professor M.S.Rao

"There comes a special moment in everyone's life, a moment for which that person was born. That special opportunity, when he seizes it, will fulfill his mission—a mission for which he is uniquely qualified. In that moment he finds greatness. It is his finest hour."  - Winston Churchill

Your level of dreams determines your level of success. Bigger the dreams, greater the success! Broader the vision, greater the impact! At times, people are miser to dream big resulting in lower level of success. Therefore, what is essential is to dream big to achieve big in your life.

When you dream big, your imagination levels go up and you will be inspired to work harder to achieve your goals. Additionally, a great dream must be accompanied by great efforts. Only when the vision is broader and efforts are enormous, you will be able to make it big in your life.

Life is not a cakewalk. You find lots of distractions when you intend to accomplish your goals. You must not give up when faced with stiff opposition and distractions. You must be able to find out the reasons for distractions and remove the roadblocks to keep yourself aligned with your goals.

When you want to achieve big, you must have clarity in your mind about the way to accomplish your goals. In fact, clarity in mind provides clear path to your success. Break your goals into short-term and long-term and align them effectively. Even if there is any failure to accomplish your short-term goals, your long-term goals serve you as a motivation to move forward.

Invest your efforts daily in your passionate area. Allocate a few hours every day in it to accomplish your goals. Read good books and online resources to update in your area of interest. Connect with the experts through associations and social media. Currently social media have become a strong tool to network with likeminded professionals and update with latest knowledge instantly. Open a blog or website to share your views and ideas regularly with others immediately through social media. In this way, you will be able to serve more number of professionals with your knowledge, wisdom and experience. Help people and provide solutions to their problems.  Over a period of time, more people will look up to you for guidance and assistance. You will excel as a domain expert and thought leader gradually. Find out the unexplored areas to create a space for yourself. It is a highly competitive world where people are into rat race. Hence, being unconventional in your strategies will help you stand out from others. Find out what your friends in your area of interest are doing. Connect with them and share your ideas and insights. Build a strong team of ignited minds to grow as a thought leader. Creating groups in social media helps greatly to be identified as an expert. It builds your leadership brand.  If possible, author a book or contribute a book chapter to gain more acceptance and visibility. Books give your credibility and visibility. You will be respected by others. Take their feedback and improve yourself.  If there is any criticism, work on those areas to improve your ideas and insights. Healthy criticism is always desirable as it checks ego and hubris. At times, people take their ideas and insights for granted. Healthy criticism helps them check and improve their knowledge.  When you follow this methodology you will be able to excel as an international thought leader outsmarting your competitors.

Conclusion

Here is the summary of your greatness guide. Find out your passion and explore the gaps in it. Observe your external environment with an open mind. Find out the areas of challenges to provide solutions. Create both short-term and long-term goals.  Connect with likeminded professionals both physically and virtually. Make use of social media to share your ideas and insights. Take feedback constantly to improve your leadership ideas and insights. Be consistent in your energies and efforts. Manage your external distractions to keep yourself on the right track and fast track. Over a period of time, you establish your credibility and visibility and achieve greatness in your life.  Remember, nobody achieves greatness overnight. It takes years of focused efforts, patience, persistence, struggles and sacrifices.

Good luck to your greatness!

“Create an Identity for Yourself in this World to Excel as an International Celebrity”– Professor M.S.Rao

"Success is not fame or fortune; it is picking up that burden and keep on walking and not letting the pain trip you up."  - Maya Angelou

Young people in India are inspired by great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Nethaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh to name a few. Some of them are inspired by APJ Abdul Kalam who rose from humble origins despite facing several hardships and failures. It is great to note that some of the Indian youth identify themselves with Kalam and want to become like him. However, they aspire to achieve greatness easily and quickly which is not a healthy sign.  They must understand the fact that it is not easy to become like Kalam because Kalam did not achieve success overnight. He worked hard for many years as a scientist. He faced many failures as a scientist and encountered innumerable challenges in his profession.  Since he was passionate to science and technology, he persevered when odds were stacked against him.  Govt of India recognized his contribution to the nation and elevated him as the President of India. He was admired unlike other Indian former presidents who remained as mere ceremonial heads. Kalam walked his talk and inspired millions of Indian youth. Gradually he gained acceptance and is revered by many Indians in India especially by Indian youth.

Work Hard to be Worthy of Recognition

Lynda Graton of London Business School once remarked, “Gen Y has three paradoxes: short-term focus, but equally committed; tech savvy, but values face-to-face interaction; and craves recognition, but not necessarily more trophies.” Indian youth must understand these three paradoxes. They must realize the struggles and sacrifices made by several Indian leaders. It was not a cakewalk for these leaders to rise to the tipping point. Some of the leaders who struggled and sacrificed died as unsung heroes because all leaders don’t hit the limelight. Therefore, Indian youth must understand the pain and sacrifices made by these leaders to come up to top level. They must also work hard like these leaders with patience and perseverance without looking for any rewards. When they look for recognition, they may not be able to earn it. In contrast, when they work for satisfaction they will be able to earn recognition as a byproduct. Even if there is no recognition, they will earn satisfaction as they contributed their best for themselves and others.

Create a Space for Yourself

Currently there is a cut-throat competition in the world. Most of the Indian youth are intelligent with innumerable opportunities. To stand out from others, they must be able to identify the unexplored areas and work on them relentlessly and consistently. They must create a space for themselves by exploring the niche areas. It leads to carving an identity for themselves. They must consistently invest their efforts in the same area throughout their lives to excel as experts and thought leaders. In the long run, they excel as international thought leaders and celebrities. This journey requires lots of patience and perseverance.  They must do research regularly to identify the unexplored areas that have a huge potential in the long run. They must be ready to sacrifice their personal time and struggle very hard to make a mark for themselves. Above all, they must be willing to make a difference in the lives of others.

Conclusion

To summarize, identify the unexplored areas through research and work on them to create a space for yourself in this world. Invest your efforts consistently with a broad vision. Don’t take setbacks and failures personally.  Learn lessons from failures and move forward aggressively. Over a period of time, you will excel as an international celebrity thus providing meaning to your life.

“Overcome Your Exam Fears with Proper Planning, Preparation and Execution” – Professor M.S.Rao

“One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.” –Arthur Ashe

It is time to write examinations in India where most students will have apprehensions about their exams.  In fact, it is only a psychological fear, not a real fear. If appropriate steps are taken, it is easy to overcome exam fear and write well with confidence to come out with flying colors.

Students must plan well in advance for their exams.  They must identify their strong and weak areas. They must focus little more on weak areas to score well. They must create their own blueprint to prepare for exams.  They must allocate adequate hours of preparation for each subject.  They must regularly study rather than prepare when the exams are around the corner. Regular preparation is the best method to avoid stress during exams, and it is the key to long-term success. They must manage their time well by giving adequate weightage to each subject.

Parents must not thrust their unaccomplished ambitions on their children. They must give constant support to their children. Some of the successful parents are concerned if their children don’t do well academically. They must understand that some children mature fast while some mature slowly.

When we discuss knowledge and scores, most Indian parents are concerned about scores and grades of their children rather than knowledge. In fact, knowledge is supreme. If students are knowledgeable they will be able to score well in their exams. Hence, parents must stress on knowledge of their children, not their scores. Additionally, parents must not compare their children with others’ children as children are different in their Intelligent Quotient (IQ) levels. Some children may have less IQ but more of Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ).  In fact, a judicious blend of both IQ and EQ is essential to ensure healthy development of children.  Additionally, comparing their children with the academic performance of others upsets the psychological growth of their children.

In my personal life, I was a below average student since childhood. I acquired knowledge, skills and abilities mostly by trail and error method. I adopted what worked to me and discarded what did not work for me. I was mostly self-taught by going to libraries and through self-study. I don’t have any Guru. In fact, God is my Guru! Adding to my woes, my handwriting was bad. I joined in defence when I was barely 18 years old and acquired qualifications during my service.  I successfully completed my PhD in 2011.  Therefore, it is obvious that those who don’t do well academically in the initial part of life may do better in the later part of their lives.

Everyone must understand the fact that there is no exam system in the world that can genuinely evaluate the knowledge of the students within the duration of 3 hours. Hence, don’t be over conscious about exams. Give your best and wait for the positive outcome.

To summarize, students must prepare their blueprint to prepare for their exams. They must eat right, maintain good sleep and focus on what they can write. They must write their exams with confidence without comparing with their peers and without bothering about their results. Above all, parents must constantly support their children to avoid stress, and to enable their children to write their exams with confidence. Jai Hind!
