Life Lessons From Older People | Leadership Lessons | Professor M.S. Rao
“The good
leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders
do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.”
―Professor M.S. Rao
There are
several lessons young people can learn from older people especially millennials
and centennials. Older people have vast experience and understand life better
than others. They have both positive and negative experiences. You must pay attention
to older people to become smarter and wiser.
I researched
older people and found certain aspects. They are optimistic. They led a happy
life. They are blessed with many things. They are lucky people. They hardly
have any regrets. They keep up with changing times and technologies. They have
fond memories.
Here are
some lessons we can learn from older people.
Take risk. Go out and do something. Be independent and confident. Beware
of the person who has nothing to lose. Miracles happen every day. Avoid sharing
secrets with others. Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.
Maintain a journal. Respect people around based on referent power, not
positional power. Add value to society. Respect people irrespective of their
rank and position. 80 percent of the success in any job is based on your soft
skills while 20 percent on your hard skills. Don't expect life to be fair. Life
is complex. So, make it simple. Celebrate your successes. Choose your spouse
carefully. Experience new things and enjoy your life.
Takeaway: Age is just
a number to achieve success. Learn lessons from older people to minimize
mistakes and maximize success to lead your life with purpose and meaning.
"Try to
listen to your elders and parents when you are young — remember that they only
want the best for you." —David H

What To Look For In A Life Partner? | Relationships | Professor M.S. Rao
“Life is
meant for learning, enjoying, and growing, not for litigating.” ―Professor M.S.
Rao
When I was
working out in the gym a young man approached and informed me with excitement that
he was planning to get married. He asked me how to choose a life partner and
asked me to advise how to ensure a happy married life. I advised him as
follows.
Choosing the
right partner is essential to ensure longevity in married life. Choose the partner
based on compatibility and chemistry. Look for character, not color. Look for
attitude, not appearance. Don’t look for money and status because they are
dynamic and can change at any time.
When you
love a person you get trapped but later you realize that there is no
compatibility. You regret your mistake. So, you must be careful while choosing
your partner. Ask a few questions before marriage to avoid ending up with
disappointment and divorce. Check the alignment of your dreams and ambitions.
Find out the plans to check whether they are aligned with you. Check for compatibility in financial goals. Proceed
if you are persuaded with positive responses from your prospective partner.
After
marriage, treat her with respect. Love her. Care for her. Empathize with her.
Don’t take her for granted. Spend time with her. Communicate carefully. Ensure
physical intimacy. Have sex regularly. You cannot be the same as your partner
but you must create a common ground. Look for similarities, not differences. Be
each other's best friend. Accept the fact that your partner is not perfect. It
requires a lot of hard work and sacrifices to maintain your marriage life
intact and make it successful.
When you
have a perfect partner, you can live in harmony and happiness. So, create a
conducive environment at home. This is
the finest remedy for all illnesses. Be patient, loving, and caring. Enjoy the
process. If things go too extreme adversely, explore the option of divorcing to
avoid further complications. Learn to lead a happy and independent life after
divorce.
Your
siblings may go away. Your in-laws may go away. Your parents may go away. Your
children may go away. But it is your spouse who will be with you throughout
your life. Keep this in your mind and lead your life carefully and mindfully.
Takeaway: Follow
these tips to live a happy married life. A relationship is not about you or your
partner. It is between you. Remember that a long-lasting relationship is about
friendship, deep bonding, and compatibility.
