How to Succeed Against All Odds? | A Winning Mindset
“Failures
and rejections are an integral part of life. I failed many times. I fail every
day. Yet, I explore new things because I enjoy the process of exploring and
experimenting. I was rejected many times. For instance, Harvard University has
rejected my application for a postdoctoral course in the year 2016. Therefore,
learn lessons from your failures. Never give up.” ―Professor M.S. Rao
The more
challenges you undergo, the tougher you become and more determined you become
to overcome challenges. You fight against all odds to accomplish your goals and
objectives. When you look at Elon Musk, he encountered several failures
initially. He fought against all odds. He is one of the richest persons in the
world now.
You must
fight against all odds when you believe in your dreams despite there seemed to
be no light at the end of the tunnel. Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky
Fried Chicken (KFC) fought against all odds to succeed as an entrepreneur in old
age. He showed the world that age is just a number. There are several leaders
including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt who
fought against all odds with their persistence and left their leadership
legacy.
I
encountered several challenges in my life especially I was betrayed by my
relatives and siblings. But I fought for my place. I was born in a toxic family
and grew up in a toxic family. I joined the Indian Air Force when I was 18
years old to support my parents financially. I had to fight against all odds to
acquire education and ensure my survival. I wanted to acquire an education. My
parents were not in a position to afford it. I joined IAF and acquired seven
qualifications including Ph.D. in soft skills in 2011. I fought against all
financial odds and betrayals by my rogue relatives to acquire qualifications.
It is a great achievement in my life.
People
usually undergo four stages—survival, security, success, and significance. And
these stages get tougher as you go along and you must fight against all odds to
reach the fifth stage of leaving your legacy. Your life is complete only when
you complete all these five stages.
Takeaway: Remember,
the higher the challenge, the higher the reward. Develop a winner's mindset and
fight against all odds to leave your leadership legacy.
“Success is
not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
—Winston S. Churchill

Educated People versus Intelligent People
“I am not
blessed with regular education and a great education. I am not blessed with
great parents. I am not blessed with any mentors, coaches, or teachers. In
spite of these constraints, I am trying to leave my mark in the world.”
―Professor M.S. Rao
In this post,
I will differentiate between educated people and intelligent people. Educated
people can read, write and reproduce. They can acquire knowledge and research.
They are academically smart and brilliant. They share lots of knowledge with
facts and figures. They are book smarts. In contrast, intelligent people
utilize the knowledge and explore it in different contexts to achieve success.
They are practitioners and street smarts.
Intelligent
people often think of short-term gains while the educated people think of
long-term gains. Intelligent people are often overambitious while the educated
people are ambitious. Intelligent people often think of achieving success by
any means while the educated people think of achieving success with integrity.
Educated
people are lifelong learners while intelligent people are choosy learners.
Educated people share their knowledge while intelligent people understand how
to apply the knowledge. Educated people often go by rules while intelligent
people break the rules.
I am
self-educated but I am below average in intelligence since my childhood. I
acquired seven qualifications including a Ph.D. in Soft Skills because of my
passion for education and learning. It is obvious that an educated person may
not be intelligent and an intelligent person may not be educated. Intelligence
is intrinsic while education is extrinsic.
Elon Musk is
an unconventional entrepreneur who emphasizes informal education. Several successful
entrepreneurs dropped out of college. For them, education is secondary while
passion is primary.
Takeaway: Society needs both educated and intelligent people to maintain
equilibrium.
