Importance of Quality Over Quantity

“The good leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

Recently one of my friends from the USA removed unwanted connections from her social media platforms. She informed me that she emphasized quality over quantity. I appreciated her decision.

Have a few friends but great friends. I preferred books to friends in my childhood. After I joined the Indian Air Force when I was 18 years old, I have a couple of friends who are reliable and dependable. I enjoyed their company. I am still in contact with them.

How well you live matters, not how long you live matters. Leaders like Alexander the Great and Adi Shankaracharya lived for a short period. Abraham Lincoln once remarked, “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, It’s the life in your years.”

Emphasize excellence, not perfection. Activity is not an achievement. Execute your tasks with excellence. Avoid multitasking. Undertake one task, execute it effectively, and then move on to your next task.

Takeaway: Emphasize quality over quantity. Quality of life matters, not the quantity of life.

Life Is Too Short

“Life is meant for learning, enjoying, and growing, not for litigating.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

The average lifespan of a human being is 70 years. Unfortunately, we waste our precious time on unwanted things. Research shows that people waste 30 percent of their time thinking about their unpleasant past that cannot be changed. They think about the future that cannot be predicted. They must learn to live in the present.

I am 57 years old. I think about how fast life has passed. I have no regrets because I utilized my time productively and wisely on learning, leadership, and sharing my knowledge freely with the world.

Don't spend your time complaining and criticizing others. Don’t blame the people around. Use your precious time and energies to add value to others. Serve others with your kind heart. Make others feel important. Appreciate good things. Make people around you happy. Some people bring happiness wherever they go whereas some people bring happiness whenever they go. Let people appreciate your presence. Let them feel your absence. Life is great indeed!

Decide to be happy. Enjoy the little things. Enjoy traveling because traveling teaches you to be tolerant and empathize with others. Traveling is the best teacher.

Takeaway: You won’t get back to your past. Live happily every day productively.

Life is too short. Make it sweet.

Life Is Too Short - Motivational Video | Professor M.S. Rao

Are Entrepreneurs Crazy?

“Overnight success is an exception, not a rule. Successful people planted seeds, watered the seeds, and saw the seeds growing into plants and trees. Therefore, make the right choices every day. Stay on your game. Keep going for your dreams.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

Entrepreneurs have an urge to succeed. They have the drive and ambition. They strongly believe in their dreams. They don't listen to naysayers. They are often treated as crazy. The entrepreneurs including Elon Musk and Jack Ma succeeded against all odds. They succeeded because they are crazy. Critics often think that they are stupid. Critics are the ordinary people while the entrepreneurs are the extraordinary people. Entrepreneurs treat crazy as a compliment, not as a criticism. They pursue their ideas when there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. They convert their vision into a reality. They hustle every day. People often don’t see their hard work. They see only their success.

Entrepreneurs don’t look for excuses. They explore ideas for resolving issues. Therefore, be well-rounded and be well-grounded to become a successful entrepreneur. Don’t lose faith. Remember, entrepreneurship is for the brave-hearted, not for the fainthearted.

Experiment Your Ideas like Elon Musk to Excel as an Entrepreneur

“Failures and rejections are an integral part of life. I failed many times. I fail every day. Yet, I explore new things because I enjoy the process of exploring and experimenting. I was rejected many times. For instance, Harvard University has rejected my application for a postdoctoral course in the year 2016. Therefore, learn lessons from your failures. Never give up.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

I have seen a few entrepreneurs challenging the established giants with an idea and technology. They are leveraging technology to achieve success and make a difference in the lives of others.

Entrepreneurs must explore ideas and test them. They must learn lessons from failures and move on with valuable takeaways. When you look at Elon Musk, his entrepreneurial journey is not straight. His entrepreneurial graph is less of peaks and more of valleys. His first three launches failed, but he learned lessons and moved on. Currently, he is the richest person in the world.

Anything can change at any time. You must have an idea, take risks, experiment, and explore. Above all, be persistent.

Takeaway: Be a risk-taker. Don't fear failures. Be persistent.

“Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up.” —Elon Musk
