The Challenge of Learning: The Future of Education

“One person, one passion, one dream, and one vision can change the future of education in the world.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

I participated in Nobel Week Dialogue 2020 on the topic titled, ‘The Challenge of Learning: The Future of Education’ because I am passionate about education, teaching, students, and sharing my knowledge freely with the world. I have authored a couple of books on education, teaching, training, and students. The Nobel Week Dialogue was exciting with valuable takeaways. Here are some takeaways from this dialogue.

Education is a lifelong process. It is a great amplifier and accelerator. It must help us learn to live sustainably. It must create curiosity and open the minds of students. It must ignite the minds of the students and help them convert information into knowledge. Educators must become great accelerators and facilitators. They must create curiosity in students and provide a conducive environment for students to learn.

“If someone asks me a question, ‘What is it you see when you look out the window that is visible but not yet seen by others’ I will answer, ‘I see a world filled with people with a huge potential lying untapped. If I can identify their strengths and inspire them to unlock their potential, I feel that I have made a difference in the world.’” —Professor M.S. Rao

How to Write a Book

How to Write a Book

"Writing a book is an adventure to begin with, it is a toy and an amusement, then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public." ―Winston Churchill

Some people want to write a book but they are scared of writing and publishing it. Writing a book is always a challenge for beginners and experienced writers. In this post, I will discuss how to write and publish your book successfully.

I have written more than 60 books and published more than 50 books within a decade. It requires passion and vision. It requires discipline and dedication. It requires execution and excellence. Here are some tips to write your book.

Find out whether you are passionate about writing a book or it. If you are passionate, be clear about the area you want to write about. Research on that area to identify the gaps. After finding the gaps, check whether you will be able to fill those gaps and pull it off. For instance, some writers start a book and leave it in the middle as they find it challenging to proceed further due to a lack of adequate interest and content. It happens for most writers. When I became an author in 2010, I started writing a book on charismatic leadership. But I could not complete it as I did not get adequate material to research and write. Additionally, the topic did not create adequate curiosity in me. So, I stopped writing the book and included the written content in another relevant book.

After you decided to write your book, create tentative chapters to write. Precisely, create a blueprint to proceed with chapter titles. Take up each chapter, research, and write the chapter. Don't attempt to write too many chapters at a time. Take one chapter, write it completely, and move to the next chapter. During the process of writing, more ideas flash on your mind to include new chapters in the book. Maintain a separate document for writing your ideas. Complete all chapters. Finally integrate all chapters chronologically to complete your book. Remember to be an author first and an editor next. Creating ideas and writing a chapter is more important. Editing can be done later. Edit all chapters and reshuffle your chapters to ensure the right sequence.

Edit and improve your book multiple times to get the best finished product. Check the authenticity of the data you outlined. Create sample chapters from the book and approach eminent people in the area to write endorsements and a foreword. After giving a gap for a few days, edit and improve your book again. In this way, you will be able to write your book. Remember, writing a book is easier said than done. It is a painful process with lots of distractions and disturbances. You must stay clearly focused on your goal.

Approach the publishers who can publish your book. Don't worry if your book proposal is rejected. Every author has several rejections including JK Rowling. Be an optimist and send your book proposal until you get the best and ideal publisher who can publish it. Edit it finally and submit your soft copy of the entire manuscript to the publisher. You will be asked to change or modify the content. Follow the suggestions of the publisher. You will find happiness when your book sees the light of the day. You forget the entire painful process when you see your book in print. It is like a mother seeing her baby for the first time with a smile.

To summarize, be passionate, create a tentative blueprint of chapters, write each chapter, be flexible to modify your chapters and content, edit your book several times, approach the right publisher, and publish your book. Wishing you good luck with your book writing!

Write Your Life Story

Write the Story of Your Life

"If someone asks me a question, 'What is it you see when you look out the window that is visible but not yet seen by others' I will answer, 'I see a world filled with people with a huge potential lying untapped. If I can identify their strengths and inspire them to unlock their potential, I feel that I have made a difference in the world.'" —Professor M.S. Rao

Throughout my life, I believed in two things―continuous learning and constant feedback. Having reached 57 years, I decided to take feedback about my life. I wanted to share it with storytelling. It gives me a sense of satisfaction that I led my life with purpose and meaning and provided a ray of hope and inspiration to the next generations. It helps me leave my legacy to the future generations that I contributed my best despite financial constraints and family challenges and despite hailing from humble origins with toxic family background.

Examining my Life

I have made several mistakes in my life leading to many challenges in life. I was working hard but I was overconfident that my hard work would lead to success. I did not realize that distractions and disturbances from the external environment would ruin my prospects of achieving success. I made the mistake of believing people blindly. I was cheated by others several times since I trusted them blindly. Later, I realized that I must be careful in judging the people. I made the mistake of trusting my family members that they would support me when I failed in business. Unfortunately, they backed out when I failed in business. They thought that I would become a liability for them. I never expected that my siblings would betray me and snatch away the little share of property that I was supposed to get my parents. Fortunately, my friends from the Indian Air Force helped me overcome my challenges. I was blessed to join the Indian Air Force where I got friends with a positive attitude.

Life taught me several lessons. I planned many things but destiny took me to totally different paths. As a result, I led a life with diversified experiences including military, business, teaching, training, consultancy, and writing background. I learned that life is never a straight line. I still struggle with financial challenges because I never cared for money. I cared for sharing my knowledge freely with the world. I cared for grooming one million students as global leaders by 2030. It landed me in several financial challenges. My continues writing led me to severe back pain. I overcame it through physiotherapy exercises and discipline.

To conclude, examine your life, share your strengths and weaknesses, unveil your failures and successes with integrity to enable your next generations to learn lessons from your life to evolve as better citizens and excel as better leaders. Life is great.

"The good leaders do the best thing in the prevailing situation whereas the great leaders do the right thing in any situation irrespective of the effects and outcomes." ―Professor M.S. Rao
