Towards ‘One Education and One Nation’ Policy in India―Share if You Care!

“It requires a lot of courage to become an educator as it is not for everybody. If a parent is unworthy, children are spoiled; if a doctor neglects his duty, the patient dies; if an engineer performs poorly, the infrastructure collapses; and if an educator makes a mistake, an entire generation is ruined.” ―Professor M. S. Rao

Everyone talks about Indian education as defective. Most of them are aware of the problems plaguing with the prevailing educational system. A few of them offer solutions to overcome. What we must do is to analyze the challenges, offer creative ideas, and implement them effectively to achieve a values-based education system in India. In this post, we will discuss the challenges and solutions in the Indian education system concluding with a uniform education policy in India.

Indian Education System

“Do not train children in learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” —Plato

Presently the Indian education system is exam-oriented, not learning and employment-oriented. There is a lack of quality education and character education. Corruption entered educational institutions thus becoming cancer to Indian society. Here are some ideas to consider improving the Indian education system.
  • Make education affordable to all.
  • Emphasize more on primary and second education.
  • Ensure educational institutions with adequate infrastructure and facilities.
  • Provide an ambience for students to learn and grow.
  • Customize courses as per the changing times and technologies.
  • Make pedagogy student-centric, not teacher-centric. Apply different strokes to different students as all students are not alike in intelligence and understanding.
  • Provide faculty development programs to upgrade teachers and trainers. Equip them with technology.
  • Encourage creativity and innovation. Ensure that students become employable and deployable in the workplace.
  • Emphasize curricular and extracurricular activities to enable students to evolve as well-rounded personalities.
  • Eliminate corruption from educational institutions. Eliminate bogus educational institutions. Address the irregularities in the educational institutions earnestly.
  • Emphasize character education because education without character is abortion.
  • Offer values-based education.

Conclusion

“Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” —John Dewey

We have one GST in India. Why shouldn’t we have one educational policy in India? Of course, there will be challenges from different States. India is the largest democracy in the world and the second largest populated country in the world. Hence, adopting a uniform education policy is very challenging but it is worth exploring ways and means to achieve ‘one education, one nation’ policy in India to build a strong and prosperous India. Jai Hind.

Leadership Lessons from Subramania Bharati: Reform, Perform and Transform―Share if You Care!

"Let the sky fall, when it crumbles, we will stand tall and face it all together." —Subramanya Bharathiyar
அச்சமில்லை அச்சமில்லை அச்சமென்பதில்லையே
துச்சமாக எண்ணி நம்மைத் தூறு செய்த போதினும்

There are several leaders who changed the face of India with their courage, creativity, and contribution. The list is endless. In this post, I will discuss Subramanya Bharathiyar, his creative leadership and the lessons we must learn from his leadership.

Subramanya Bharathiyar (Dec. 11, 1882—Sept. 11, 1921)

“Live in the present and shape the future, do not be casting lingering looks to the distant past for the past has passed away, never again to return.” —Subramanya Bharathi

Subramanya Bharati was a great poet, patriot, nationalist, freedom fighter, and social reformer. He was also known as "Mahakavi Bharati." He is considered the father of the modern Tamil style. He was born in Thoothukudi and lived in Triplicane, Chennai. He lived in Varanasi where he had a Sikh friend. He loved Sikhs and wore a turban and a beard like Sikhs. He was associated with Mahatma Gandhi during India’s freedom struggle. He moved to Puducherry during the freedom struggle and lived for 10 years. Puducherry is a land of creativity and cultural prosperity where he translated the Bhagavad Gita into Tamil. He died poor in pocket but rich in heart.

Leadership Lessons—Reform, Perform and Transform

"World will prosper in knowledge and intellect if both men and women are deemed equal." —Subramanya Bharathi

There are several lessons you must learn from Bharathiyar’s creative leadership. Here are some of them.
  • Walk your talk.
  • Be fearless. Do what is just and right.
  • Don’t compromise with your principles and philosophies.
  • Advocate women empowerment.
  • Be rich in ideas in spite of being poor economically.
  • When the going gets tough tough gets going.
  • Emphasize on knowledge, not wealth.

Conclusion

“He who writes poetry is not a poet. He whose poetry has become his life, and who has made his life his poetry - it is he who is a poet.” —Subramanya Bharathi

Bharathiyar contributed immensely for poetry and India’s freedom struggle. As a mark of respect for his contribution, Bharathiar University was named after him in Coimbatore in 1982; the road was named after him in New Delhi; award was instituted after him by the Ministry of Human Resources; and statues erected in various places including Indian Parliament, Marina Beach, Chennai, and Puducherry.

You are gifted with one life and you must deliver your goods with excellence without craving for any attention and seeking approval from others to provide meaning to your life.

Subramanya Bharati remains an inspiration for all Indians, especially for Tamilians. He will be remembered forever in Indian history for his courageous and creative leadership. Jai Hind.

“He who forgets not God and fails not in his duty, no matter whatever befalls him and however much he suffers, will at the end attain honor and happiness." —Subramanya Bharathi
