“Whom the gods love, die
young.”
I was shocked to hear the
sudden demise of Indian actress Sridevi in Dubai on February 24, 2018 due to accidental drowning. I am unable to digest this fact. But life is unpredictable. In
the year 1990, I viewed the film ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’ and
enjoyed her mesmerizing dance number ‘Abbanee Thiyyanee Debba’ with India’s
megastar Chiranjeevi. I was a fan of Chiranjeevi and Sridevi and the film is
memorable even today. I was convinced that Sridevi was the only Indian actress
who can match with the dancing style of Chirajeevi with grace and charm to mesmerize
audiences.
Sridevi
— A Complete Actress
Sridevi was a complete
actress who was strong in facial animation, vocal animation and body animation.
She excelled in all areas of acting including romance, comedy and tragedy. She was
a versatile actress. I grew up viewing her movies. Although she took break from
film industry for 15 years, it did not affect her image and brand value because
of her contribution and charisma. She was fortunate to have received professional
support from all quarters throughout her career. For instance, Bharathiraja
gave her break in Kollywood; Raghavendra Rao in Tollywood; and Yash Chopra in
Bollywood to name a few. She was a blessed actress who was bold and beautiful
in front of camera. She is the first female star to have earned the tag of
being a superstar. She received Padma
Shri ― India’s fourth highest civilian honor for her contribution to Indian
cinema in 2013.
