3 Aspects You Must Consider About Overseas Education ― Share if You Care

“The family with a history of education for three generations is unbeatable in the world.” ― Professor M.S.Rao

My elder son, M. Ganesh Sai successfully completed his engineering degree. He expressed his enthusiasm to pursue higher education abroad. Since I am a career coach and counsel students about career opportunities and write on education, I advised him as follows: “Choose the course as per your intelligence; subjects as per your interest; and college as per our budget.”

Most Indian students overestimate their intelligence and underestimate their inner abilities.  They go by peer pressure, not as per their passions. They follow the crowd. They hardly introspect themselves. They are in a hurry to execute things due to their age pressure and peer pressure. In fact, they must take stock of their inventory such as abilities, skills, knowledge and resources, and choose their career accordingly. It helps them enjoy their professional life and fast-track their career. It avoids stress in the workplace and ensures work-life balance. Above all, it provides meaning to their life. They must look at their budget and understand the financial constraints of their parents. They must cut the coat as per the cloth. Although most parents want to provide better education to their children, they have their own commitments and constraints. Hence, they may not be able to rise as per the expectations and aspirations of their children which may often upset the latter. Hence, children must empathize with their parents especially the financial constraints.

Conclusion

“It’s a big world out there, it would be a shame not to experience it.” — Jo Andrews

To ensure your career growth, you must follow the road less traveled. Ralph Waldo Emerson rightly remarked, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”  Emphasize more on your vertical growth rather than on horizontal growth. To conclude, choose the course in which you are passionate; choose the subjects in which you can excel; and above all, choose the college which is credible and visible globally that falls within your budget to accomplish your ambition to pursue higher education overseas.

“So we know that it’s not enough for us to simply encourage more people to study abroad. We also need to make sure that they can actually afford it.” ―Michelle Obama
