“Build Your Personal Brand to Achieve All-Round Success” ―Professor M.S.Rao

"Your brand is a gateway to your true work. You know you are here to do something - to create something or help others in some way. The question is, how can you set up your life and work so that you can do it? The answer lies in your brand. When you create a compelling brand you attract people who want the promise of your brand - which you deliver." ―Dave Buck

Most people aspire to be recognized by others for their contributions and achievements. What they must do is to build their personal brands constantly. If a rain drop falls into an ocean, it loses its significance whereas if the same rain drop falls into a shell, it becomes a pearl. That means the right person must be in the right place at the right time to achieve amazing success. Hence, building your personal brand helps you reach out the right audiences to achieve greater success in your life.

Personal branding helps you stand out from others. It is your unique identity, attitude and personality. People perceive you with a unique mindset, tool set and skill set. Hence, be careful while building your personal brand. Also, ensure that you protect your personal brand carefully. Before building your personal brand, consider the following aspects.
Find out your unique strengths, skills, abilities and knowledge.
How do you like to fast-track in your career?
What makes you stand out from others?
What do you like to be remembered for?

Advantages of Personal Branding

There are innumerable advantages of building your personal brand. You will get plenty of employment offers, and you will be in a position to shortlist your employers. When you share knowledge with others on social media you will be recognized quickly. You will be able to create a fan base for you globally. You can become a domain expert, thought leader, and a public speaker. You can keynote conferences.  In the current context, there is no permanent employment but there is only permanent employability. Therefore, having a strong personal brand helps you ensure permanent employment.

Build Your Personal Brand in 3 Spheres

You must build your personal brand in three areas – economic, political, and spiritual. When you grow economically you ensure your livelihood. You don’t lose track of your progress on other aspects due to financial constraints. When you have contacts politically, you will connect with eminent people and you will be in a position to advise and help them with your knowledge and expertise. You will be able to receive awards and honors from them. When you attend nonprofits and spiritual centers, you share your knowledge with others free and win their love and affection. You gain credibility. If you try in these three ways, you enhance your credibility, visibility and popularity. Hence, invest your efforts in these three areas brick by brick to build your personal brand to fast-track your career and to make a difference to the world.

“How Leaders Like APJ Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh and S.Radhakrishnan Reinvented from Government Servants to Public Servants?” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“No power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come.” ―Victor Hugo

There are a few government servants who became public servants in India. They worked very hard behind the scenes for many years in their respective areas. They came to the forefront as their services were recognized by the leaders at the top.  Let us look at some of them.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a great scientist who was a tough task master. He spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He dedicated his life to science and technology. His services were recognized by top leaders in India. He was elevated to the post of President. He set a goal of conducting 500,000 one-on-one meetings with young people over the course of his five-year term. He added dignity and grace to the post, and finally became a People’s President in India.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was an economist. He was spotted by P.V. Narasimha Rao who elevated him as the Finance Minister of India. Dr. Singh was the architect of India's reforms programme. He played a crucial role when India’s economy was on the brink of bankruptcy. He introduced economic reforms with the support of late P.V. Narasimha Rao. He was subsequently elevated as the Prime Minister of India. History will remember that a Sikh (Dr. Manmohan Singh) who was nominated for Prime Ministership by a Christian Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) and sworn in by a Muslim President (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam).

S. Radhakrishnan was an academician. Top leaders recongised his intellectual contributions to the area of education. He was elevated to the post of President whose birthday is celebrated as the ‘Teachers Day’ in India.

Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was an IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre who became the Director of the Intelligence Bureau.  He was elevated as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. Presently he is the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. He is non-controversial who added an immense value to the post of Governor.

All these leaders were in the backseat as government servants contributing their best in their own spheres consistently. Finally, their services were recognized, and elevated as public servants. Hence, contribute your best to your domain relentlessly. Add value seriously and sincerely. You will be noticed and recognized by others. You will be able to reach your pinnacle position to make a difference to the society.

“Bhutan’s ‘Gross National Happiness’ Index” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” ―Buddha

Ideally any nation’s growth is measured by its economic development. However, the tiny remote Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan is an exception where it first invented the idea of using happiness as a measure of good governance. It coined 'Gross National Happiness' index thus becoming a trendsetter to other nations globally. Many nations are taking a leaf out of Bhutan to keep their people happy.

Nations adopt Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but Bhutan adopted “Gross National Happiness" (GNH) in 1972.  It was proposed by Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the country's former king and the father of the present king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. This new perspective put Bhutan on the global map. Bhutan became the benchmark for happiness globally. GDP measures the economic health of a country while GNH measures the happiness of a country.

Previously companies emphasized on the slogan of ‘customers first, employees second and shareholders third’. But presently companies emphasize on ‘employees first, customers second and shareholders third’. In a similar spirit, a nation’s well being must be measured by people’s happiness rather than by so-called economic development. Only when the people are happy, they will be able to contribute their best and achieve economic progress.

This new concept is worthy to be explored by other nations. What every nation ultimately wants is that their people must be happy. Hence, it is time nations followed this concept.

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful." ―Albert Schweitzer
