Professor M.S.Rao’s Principle – The 10-20-30 Rule –– Local, National and Global Leader

There are a number of principles in the world including Pareto’s Principle 80/20 and Jack Welch’s 20:70:10. Here is another principle I have coined to become a local, national and global leader – Professor M.S.Rao’s Principle 10/20/30.  Here is an elaborate explanation of this principle which can be applied in any industry and sector to grow as a local, national and global leader.   

To achieve happiness and success in your life, you must pursue your passions without searching for monetary rewards. Passion leads to money, not the other way round. Hence, follow your heart where you are comfortable and enjoy doing it with loads of enthusiasm and without any stress. After identifying your passions, follow them relentlessly by investing your efforts and energies consistently. If you work hard for 10,000 hours which may take 3 years approximately, you will become an expert and authority in your area. You can become a professional and grow as a local leader.  If you continue investing your efforts and energies in your passionate area for 20,000 hours which may take around 6 years, you become an expert and authority at the national level to grow as a national leader. In a nutshell, you grow as a thought leader at the national level.  If you invest your efforts and energies in the same area for a period of 30,000 hours which may take around 9 years of your life, you become an expert and authority at the international level. You will grow as a global leader in your passionate area.  When you look at film stars, sportspersons, leaders and celebrities, they achieved amazing success by following this principle and sticking to their passionate areas without any deviation.

The entire process appears to be easy to read but it is very difficult to apply because there will be innumerable challenges on the way to reach to the tipping point.  You must have patience, and be persistent to achieve your goals.  You must work for satisfaction, not for recognition.   Above all, you must have a heart to make a difference in the lives of others to be accepted and respected as a global leader. Enjoy the journey, not the destination. Emphasize on means, not ends to provide meaning to your life. Explore and experiment this principle and I am sure you be a global leader.

“How to Meet the Rising Expectations of all Stakeholders?”– Professor M.S.Rao

Currently leaders at the top are concerned about the rising expectations of stakeholders globally. Students expect more from educators, children expect more from their parents, employees expect more from employers, customers expect more from companies, and society expects more from government. People are becoming right-oriented rather than duty-oriented. They want more for less. They are very impatient and not willing to forgive any mistakes. In a nutshell, they want the best of everything in the world. For every problem, there will be multiple solutions. Hence, to meet the rising expectations of people, the solution lies with people only.

Roy H. Williams once remarked, “The first step in exceeding your customer's expectations is to know those expectations.” Hence, people must find out what others want. They must understand the changing tastes and temperaments of people. They must work hard constantly without inventing any excuses. They must come out their comfort zone and strive for excellence because what is acceptable and successful today might not be acceptable and successful tomorrow. Hence, they must learn, unlearn and relearn quickly to keep pace with the rising expectations of all stakeholders.

The world is very brutal with cut-throat competition. Only performers will survive while the rest will perish. Only sincere people will succeed in the world while the fake perish quickly. People must stretch constantly to stand out from others. They must network constantly with likeminded people and professionals to get updated regularly. Additionally, they must reinvent constantly.   

Loyalty is skin deep in the people. Previously there was loyalty to leaders. Unfortunately, it is missing and people stop revering leaders who fail to deliver their goods constantly. Whether it is CEOs, politicians, sportspersons, or film stars, the basic challenge remain the same. People praise leaders at one moment and criticize the very next moment when leaders don’t rise up to the challenges. Hence, it is very tough to persuade people.  To conclude, it is essential to do research to find out the expectations of the people and strive hard to reach out to them without resting on laurels.

“Interview Template with Innovative Questions and Answers”– Professor M.S.Rao

Interview is all about interaction, communication and negotiation. Everyone undergoes interview one way or the other in their personal, professional or social life. In fact, there are no right and wrong answers to many questions.  What is essential is to present a positive attitude to achieve your goals and objectives. The list of employment interview questions is very lengthy. Here are a few interview questions with answers that help you analyze, assess and answer well both in life and employment interview:


Q: What motivates you to get up from your bed?

A:  Express what touches you the most in your life. Here is an ideal answer. I am passionate about acquiring and sharing knowledge.  I read lot of books, author books and contribute articles to international journals and magazines. Additionally, I share my knowledge on various burning issues regularly on social media including my blogs. I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. My vision is to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. http://professormsraovision2030.blogspot.in/2014/12/professor-m-s-raos-vision-2030-one_31.html  I shall not stop until I accomplish my vision. Additionally, I strive for excellence. Whenever I author books, I revise my draft many times to create the best content. Every time I read the draft, I include new ideas and insights and eliminate irrelevant ones to deliver my best. When I teach and train I deliver my best. I work for satisfaction, not for recognition. I want to provide meaning to my life.  Above all, the satisfaction of seeing the light go on for other people is what gets me out of bed in the morning.


Q: How would one of your friends describe you?

A: Take a few strengths and weaknesses to describe yourself. My friends say that I am a visionary, strategist and philanthropist. They add that I am a hard worker, committed and dedication person. Also, they say that I am a very good time manager. They often criticize me as a perfectionist, straight forward person and I trust others blindly to finally get cheated by them.  


Q: Why the vision of the company is important to you?

A: Vision is about where you want to go. It is different from mission which shows how you want to go in your life. In fact, vision is the first thing to drive individuals and organizations forward. Only when the vision of the organization and employees are well aligned, the organizations will be able to achieve all-round productivity and performance.

Vision is company specific. Hence, whenever you go for an interview, find out both vision and mission of the company and offer your responses in such a way that your ideas and values are aligned with the vision of the company. Remember, nobody wants a square peg in a round hole and a round peg in a square hole. Everyone wants a round peg in a round hole and a square peg in a square to ensure cultural fit and values. When you look at Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos.com, he emphasizes on organizational culture to ensure cultural fit to achieve organizational excellence and effectiveness.  

To conclude, when you want to achieve success in your personal, professional and social life, find out the expectations and aspirations of others and reciprocate accordingly with cultural fit and values to achieve an amazing success in your life.
