Pros and Cons of TikTok―Share if You Care!
“If you are on social media,
and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired or not networking,
then you are using it wrong.” ―Germany Kent
The usage of TikTok app is
growing globally with the participation of various generational cohorts
especially the Generation Y and Generation Z. Some users leverage this app to make
money while some use it to build their brands. In this post, I will discuss the
pros and cons of TikTok app and how to use it effectively to acquire education,
have entertainment, add value to the social media community and build your
brand successfully.
TikTok is taking the digital
world by storm, and branding and marketing experts are taking a serious note
about it.
TikTok is basically for those
people who are attention-seekers. It is an opportunity to showcase your skills,
abilities, and talents. You can display your passion by uploading videos in
your areas of interest. However, you must keep it as a healthy hobby. Fix some
time regularly to avoid getting addicted to this app. In fact, a lot of time is
wasted in preparing the videos. Once you become an expert, you will make the
perfect videos. Don’t bombard with many videos at a time. Instead, prepare a
social media blueprint and proceed methodically and systematically. Upload
videos regularly to get noticed by others. Once you get noticed, you make money
and build your brand. If you are noticed by celebrities, you may grab opportunities
to convert your passion into profession. Some girls post videos with their
beautiful images. If they are noticed by the film industry, they can grab
opportunities to act. Ensure that your videos go viral with great content,
right hashtags and at the right time. Use it basically for educating and
entertaining others. If you get any
opportunities, it is a bonus for you.
Harness Social Media to Stand
Out
Previously people used to emphasize
the physical network to connect with celebrities to explore opportunities. With
the advent of social media, it has become easier to reach the top without any
physical connections. If your post is liked and appreciated on social media,
opportunities will knock your doors. However, the challenge is to use the right
platforms, right content, right hashtags and above all patience to stand out
from others and excel. The entire process is easier said than done. All that
you need is to have pluck and a little bit of luck to stand out from the crowd.
Both time and timing count on social media.
Conclusion
“Being human in the digital
world is about building a digital world for humans.” ―Andrew Keen
Ensure that you don’t get
distracted from your core activities. Fix some time every day to enjoy
yourself. You may use it during your free time. You may use it when you are
upset or depressed to energize yourself. To summarize, don’t become addicted to
this app. Don’t waste your precious time. Use it for education and entertainment.
Use it to add value to others and build your brand effectively.

Mahatma Gandhi and India of his Dreams―Share if You Care!
“Be the change that you wish
to see in the world.” —Mahatma Gandhi
India celebrates Mahatma
Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary on October 02, 2019. I was inspired
by Mahatma Gandhi when I served in the Indian Air Force in 1980s. I read his
autobiography and it influenced me immensely. As one of his followers, I share
some ideas and insights about him in this post.
Mahatma Gandhi is known as
the father of the nation because of his crucial role to achieve India’s
independence. He dreamed of a free India and prosperous India. But India today
is not the India he dreamed. I will relate India of my dreams vis-à-vis India
of his dreams.
Mahatma Gandhi was the rarest
leader who learned continuously, led by example and served as a ladder for
others throughout his life. He did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, although
he was nominated five times. But his
followers including Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Aung San
Suu Kyi, and Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. It indicates his
influence beyond borders and laying the ladder for great leaders. It is a pride
for Indians that Mahatma Gandhi was born in India whose influence is beyond
borders and generations.
All patriotic citizens have
their dreams about their nations the way they have dreams about their lives.
Some nations do well while other nations don’t do well. In a democracy, it is
the people who decide the fate of their leaders. If citizens elect the right
leaders the nations will prosper. The onus lies with citizens to elect the
right leaders who can build better nations.
Addressing the Challenges
There are innumerable
challenges ahead for our country. Currently, the Indian economy is down and
unemployment problem is high. We must address them by improving our economy and
enhancing employment. There is an urgent need for Indian youth to build skills
and abilities to enhance their employability skills. A study shows that there
is an unemployability problem in India arising from ineffective education
system. The present education system emphasizes theory, not practice. It
encourages reading, writing and reproducing. It must be addressed earnestly to
create a skilled workforce for better productivity and performance.
We must encourage
entrepreneurship in Indian youth. More entrepreneurs mean more opportunities. There
is growing urbanization and there is an urgent need to build homes to the
homeless in India. We must emphasize on women empowerment.
Indian intellectuals must be
part of the solution to build a better India. All stakeholders including
intellectuals, educators, government, nonprofits, and industry must collaborate
to build a strong India.
India is Rich in Human
Resources and Natural Resources
In spite of being rich in human
resources and natural resources, India is not able to exploit its natural
resources. A small country like Singapore prospered without natural resources.
Why cannot India prosper despite being blessed with natural resources? We have
a huge young population and we must tap them to build a strong nation.
There is an urgent need to
revolutionize agriculture. Make industry agrarian-oriented, not the other way
around. We must live in peace and prosperity everywhere. It is said that next
to God is the neighbor. Hence, we must emphasize good neighborly relations to
enable us to focus on developmental activities.
India is a Land of Unity in
Diversity
Diversity is the bedrock of
India. Strive for secularism to ensure unity and integrity of India. There must
be tolerance and respect for all cultures, castes, communities, religions, and
regions. We must respect diversity.
When good citizens like you
join, we can make a huge difference in society. Everything starts with one
person and that one person is YOU.
Remember, one person who can change the world is YOU! Let us take a
pledge to acquire positive, right and strong attitude; enhance our commitment
levels; work together to build a strong and great India.
India is a Land of
Aspirations!
“If there is one place on the
face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the
very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India.” —Romain Rolland, Roman Scholar
India is a nation of hopes! The
21st century belongs to India and Indians. India will grow as superpower
and Indians will grow globally in all spheres spreading India’s cultural
richness and greatness. We are blessed with several inherent strengths. We must
explore and utilize our strengths to build a strong and vibrant India. There
must be a shift in the mindset of people from being rights-oriented to
duty-oriented. Let us look at the door that is opened. Be responsible. Be
accountable. Be duty-oriented. Make a difference in the lives of others. We
must be proud of being Indians first and Indians last to make India as a
superpower in the world. God bless India.
Jai Hind!

How to Become a Social Media Influencer and Build Your Leadership Brand?―Share if You Care!
“The key to branding,
especially for smaller firms, is to focus on a limited number of issue areas
and develop superb expertise in those areas.” —Philip Kotler
Social media has thrown incredible
opportunities and enormous challenges to the humankind. It has both merits and
demerits. If users know how to leverage social media they can enjoy innumerable
advantages including earning money, building a brand and adding value to
society. In this regard, we will discuss the significance of social media and
outline social media strategies to add value and build your leadership brand.
Who is an Influencer?
Influencers are ordinary
individuals with above-average expertise, experience, and education in their
areas and have the ability to sway public opinion. They can be thought leaders,
industry leaders, and celebrities. They have built their brands with their
credibility by adding value consistently. Most social media users aspire to
excel as influencers but the road to becoming influencers is not easy. It
requires huge and sustained efforts systematically. It requires more investment
in time and less investment in money. At times there seems to be no light at
the end of the tunnel. If users are passionate, persistent and patient they can
become influencers gradually. A blend of pluck and luck is essential to excel
as an influencer internationally. When you want to live for tomorrow, not today
becoming an influencer is advisable.
Social Media Strategy
You must have a strategy to
become an influencer. You must identify your goals, aspirations, and expectations
to build a strategy. Here is a blueprint to proceed with your social media
strategy. Identify which social media platform is useful for your need. Create
a social media network for each need. Devise a strategy for each network.
Identify your competitors to stand out. Take a social media audit regularly. Update
with social media tools and technologies. Explore new social media networks. Take
feedback regularly to improve and update your strategies.
Build Your Brand
Focusing on the right social
media network helps you accomplish your goals and build your brand. Germany
Kent offers a five-step method to brand on social media—posting content that
adds value, spreading positivity, creating a steady stream of information,
making an impact and being yourself. Here is how you can leverage each social
media platform to build your brand. Focus on twitter if you want to become a
celebrity. Focus on LinkedIn if you want to build your professional credibility.
Focus on YouTube when you want to share your knowledge through visuals. Focus
on your blog when you want to share text content and build your brand. Focus on
Facebook when you want to increase your followers and widen your fan base. Every
network has its own merits. Hence, wisdom lies in identifying the advantages in
each network and leveraging it effectively to accomplish your personal,
professional and social goals.
Conclusion
Almost half of the global
population use social media. If you have the right strategy, choose the right
network, and campaign aggressively you will be able to reach your target
audiences easily and build your brand.

Stop Multitasking: Do One thing at a Time―Share if You Care!
“There is no royal road to
anything. One thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast,
withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures.” —J. G. Holland
Multitasking has become a
buzzword globally. In this high-tech world, people are often confused with what
to do one thing first due to the pressure from multiple sources and distraction
from various sources. They must prioritize their tasks and execute one task at
a time. Currently, there is less focus on work due to distractions arising from
technology and social media. People want everything on a platter and in precise
as per their priorities and tastes which has become a big challenge globally. In
this post, I will debunk multitasking and discuss the merits of doing one thing
at a time.
Multitasking is a Myth
Doing one thing at a time is
against multitasking. Research shows that there is no merit in multitasking.
Our brains are not effective when we multitask because they are not built for
multitasking. I am not expert in multitasking as I cannot concentrate on many
things at a time. As an author, I find it highly challenging to multitask and
follow my creative pursuits. Hence, I undertake one task and execute it effectively
and move on to the next task. There are
several merits in staying away from multitasking. You focus clearly on your
task and contribute your best. You emphasize excellence and excel in your area.
You will be able to differentiate between the chalk and the cheese. You learn
your priorities right. You don’t get distracted due to technology and social
media. You are less likely to make mistakes. The demerits include missing other
opportunities that arise while executing one task. You may be delayed in other
activities. Steve Jobs once remarked, “People think focus means saying yes to
the thing you’ve got to focus on. But
that’s not what it means at all. It
means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are.”
Multitasking may be possible
when you intend to execute a task with your conscious mind and other tasks with
your subconscious mind. For instance, women are expert in multitasking. They
view television, breastfeed children and sew the clothes. That means, they view
television with their conscious mind and breastfeed their children and sew the
clothes with their subconscious mind.
Do one thing at a Time
“The shortest way to do many
things is to do only one thing at once.” —Samuel Smiles
Remember the story of hare
and tortoise before you undertake any task. The task
that is executed slowly and steadily offers you a better outcome than the tasks
that are executed in a hurry. Hence, do one thing at a time to emphasize
excellence and excel as an effective leader. To conclude, multitasking
is a myth and doing one thing at a time is the truth.
“Do not be discouraged
because you cannot learn all at once; learn one thing at a time, learn it well,
and treasure it up, then learn another truth and treasure that up, and in a few
years you will have a great store of useful knowledge.” —Wilford Woodruff
