How to Build Trust and Relationships?

“I believe in achieving success with integrity which is often ridiculed by many people. Ultimately it is the ethics and etiquette that will make you a great leader in the long run.” —Professor M.S. Rao

I have seen some interviews where leaders talk tough. They appear to be stubborn and don’t trust their associates blindly. It may be because of their past bitter experiences with others. It also depends on their mindset.

Some leaders are stubborn and tough because of the turmoil they have undergone. They are suspicious of others. Trust is the foundation of all good relationships. Build your trust account. Receiving the compliment as a trustworthy person from others is the biggest achievement in your life. There must be alignment between what you preach and practice. Mahatma Gandhi built trust in people by leading from the front, setting an example for others to follow, and achieving India's independence.

Trust is essential to have strong relationships. If trust is broken, the relationships are broken. But here are some tips that help you build trust in others. Be transparent. Be committed. Walk your talk.  Be consistent. Treat others well. Be truthful. Be accountable.

Takeaway: Understanding basic psychology helps you with whom to trust.

Bamboo: The Miracle Plant

“Overnight success is an exception, not a rule. Successful people planted seeds, watered the seeds, and saw the seeds growing into plants and trees. Therefore, make the right choices every day. Stay on your game. Keep going for your dreams.” ―Professor M.S. Rao

I take feedback at the end of every year. When I took the feedback for the year 2020, I did not accomplish even a single goal. I felt that it was the coronavirus that threw my goals out of gear. I recalled the bamboo tree that takes a long time to shoot out from the ground.

The bamboo plant takes a long time because it strengthens its roots in the initial years, unlike other plants that grow quickly without strong roots. The growth is not visible initially for the bamboo plant. But it grows exponentially later. So, things take their own time. Never give up. Work hard, work smart, and work wise. Invest your efforts consistently to accomplish your goals.

Takeaway: Growth requires perspiration, persistence, and patience. Take action consistently. There is no overnight success. Keep moving forward. Have strong roots so that you cannot be toppled.
