“Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadami Party’s Success in Delhi Elections and Leadership Lessons for Indian Democracy” – Professor M.S.Rao

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadami Party’s
(AAP) stupendous success shows the might of Indian democracy to the world. It was like a David (Kejriwal) taking on the mighty
Goliath (Modi). This spectacular verdict is totally unexpected by many people
even by political pundits as nobody could gauge the mood of the people exactly.
The exit polls showed the win of AAP but even they could not predict landslide
win for Kejriwal. It is obvious that voters cannot be taken for granted. Delhi
voters have rejected both caste and religion politics which is a sign of
strength for democracy in India. This poll outcome shows that it is not the
elite will get elected but also common man will get elected and occupy the
office. It also shows that it is not only the tea seller but also bureaucrats with
a clean image can occupy the chair if they pursue their causes sincerely and seriously.
Here are some of the reasons for success of AAP and leadership lessons for
other political parties.
Kejriwal was a simple and humble man.
He set an example by walking his talk.
He apologized Delhi voters as he resigned as Chief Minister due to lack
of clear mandate when he became Chief Minister in the previous elections. It
persuaded voters to give a clear mandate. When Kiran Bedi who was his colleague
crusaded against corruption along with Anna Hazare became his political opponent,
he did not badmouth like other politicians. He commented that Kiran Bedi was a
nice person who will be made scapegoat by BJP later which proved to be correct.
It showed Kejriwal’s great character to praise his opponent. It was unfortunate
that he was not invited during Barack Obama’s visit for Republic Day Parade
2015.
Kejriwal didn’t give up when the media
mood was against him. He persisted with a lot of patience to keep his cadre
together and his vision intact. Some of the senior leaders who were
opportunists resigned AAP before the elections and indulged in mud-slinging. He
maintained cool and calm posture without badmouthing. A lot of money was thrown
into the elections to defeat Kejriwal but ultimately people voted Kejriwal
which indicates that people don’t bow down to money and muscle power. Since Kejriwal was simple, humble and
practical man, the Delhi voters pinned a lot of faith in his leadership. It is
a great burden for Kejriwal to live up to their expectations. Throughout his
political career he kept his passion and vision intact despite being under
threat. He reached to common man and was highly accessible. It all paid off at
the end.
Kejriwal must focus on Delhi politics
first to establish gradually across India. If he continues in this way, he can
become third alternative in Indian politics as presently there is political
vacuum for third alternative in India. It is a great opportunity for Kejriwal
to have vision to spread his wings in future nationally.
BJP must check its arrogance to stay
relevant. It must stop talking about religious conversions and must stand by
secularism to keep India united as a great nation. Congress must reinvent
immediately to avoid getting into oblivion. It must overcome elitist outlook
and must listen to the pulse of the people rather than banking on caste and
minority vote bank politics. The world is changing rapidly and India is also
changing rapidly. Therefore, both BJP and Congress must evolve accordingly
because the leadership tools and techniques that were successful for them in
the past may not be successful in future. In the long run, two or three party
system is ideal for national politics in India and to keep democracy vibrant.
To summarize, the Delhi elections
demonstrated that Indian democracy is very strong. It is the voter and common
man who will decide the fate of the political leaders. There is no room for
money and muscle power, and caste and religion politics. It appears that Indian
democracy and India is going in the right direction. We all Indians must strive
hard to keep democracy intact where people of all religions, regions, languages,
faiths, castes, and communities live together with fraternity and brotherhood. Jai

“India of my Dreams” – Professor M.S.Rao
“The future belongs to those who
believe in their dreams.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
As every individual dreams of his/her
own future every citizen dreams of his/her own nation. Similarly, I have dreams
of my India. I want India to be one of the finest nations in the world with
peace, prosperity and stability. I want India to be a global leader to gel with
other nations and collaborate for universal brotherhood and fraternity. Here
are some of the challenges we must address to take India to great heights
globally.
Presently there is a wide gap between the
rich and poor that must be bridged. A study shows that India has more number of
billionaires. There is disproportionate distribution of wealth in India. It
shows that India is rich but Indians are poor. More people from rural areas are
migrating to urban areas for better opportunities. Hence, proper infrastructure
needs to be created. Bringing reforms in infrastructure helps immensely to
accelerate developmental activities. There is a need to build homes for the homeless.
Corruption has become a cancer to Indian society. Hence, there is a need to
bring appropriate viable legislations to check corruption.
We are rich in human resources and
natural resources. We are unable to exploit our natural resources. A small country
like Singapore grew without natural resources. Why cannot India grow despite
being blessed with natural resources? Additionally, we have human resources
especially more number of young population which is a demographic dividend for
India. We must tap this precious young population and channel their energies
for nation building. A study shows that
there is unemployability problem in India arising out of defective education.
The present education system emphasizes on theory, not practical education. It
encourages reading, writing and reproducing. It must be addressed earnestly to
create skilled workforce for better productivity and performance.
There is an urgent need to revolutionize
agriculture. Make industry agrarian oriented, not the other way round. Ensure that all Indians become literate and
employed. They must live in peace and prosperity everywhere. It is said that next
to God is neighbor. Hence, we must emphasize on good neighborly relations to
enable us to focus on development.
We have lots of advantages. For
instance, we survived global recession because of our inherent system. India is
a nation where people all faiths live together. Diversity is the bedrock of
India. Therefore, it is essential to strive for secularism to ensure unity and
integrity of India. There must be tolerance and respect for all cultures,
castes, communities, religions and regions.
I am proud to say that I belong to the
country of Mahatma Gandhi which taught the world by achieving independence
through non-violence. I belong to the country of Swami Vivekananda who
pioneered Indian spiritualism and bridged the gap between the east and the
west. I belong to the nation of Mother Teresa who served the poor and leper and
revered as mother of compassion globally. Compassion and tolerance are the
essence of Indian values and principles.
To conclude, it is essential to inculcate
patriotism and nationalism among Indians apart from imparting attitude and
enhancing commitment levels. There must be shift in the mindset of people from being
rights-oriented to duty-oriented. We must be proud of being Indians first and
Indians last to make India as a super power in the world. Jai Hind!

“I Have a Dream. Vision 2030 One Million Global Leaders” – Professor M.S.Rao
I have a dream that I will build one
million students as global leaders by 2030. I am confident that I will make it
happen.
Globally there is a looming leadership
crisis due to the retirement of Baby boomers. Gen Y is ready to undertake
leadership roles and responsibility as they are not equipped with leadership
skills and abilities. Due to the sudden exit of Baby boomers, organizations
will suffer due to dearth of experienced leadership talent. Therefore, I created
a vision to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. Since I
belong to Gen X, I consider it an opportunity to bridge the gap between the
Baby boomers and Gen Y. I am passionate about leadership and I am into teaching
profession. Additionally, I am passionate about students. I have diversified areas
of experience including defence, industry, teaching, training and consultancy.
Hence, I decided to blend my diversified experience with my passionate area of
leadership to build global leaders. Some of my students express their reservations
about my vision. I tell that I am only 51 years old with very high energy
levels with a passion to make a difference to the world. Additionally, I make use of social media to
reach out to students globally.
To achieve anything in life, dream is
imperative. I have a dream that I will
be able to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. It is possible
as age is my favor and I have already trained 25000 students so far, and I can
easily accomplish my dream to build the balance global leaders within 16 years.
I also started building team of students
to work with me through online to accomplish my vision.
To conclude, leaders are dreamers,
they craft their vision and work hard relentlessly to accomplish their vision. Remember,
everything is possible if there is passion, vision, commitment, and
persistence.
